Charlie's View

It's been a few minutes now since we left the library and the silence is deafening from when we left. I am unsure why, but after that kiss the atmosphere changed, entirely. Heck, even the weather made it more dramatic. It started pouring right after we left.

I looked at him and he was all focused on driving, leaning one arm to the window and another to the steering wheel. I cleared my throat and took his phone from the phone holder beside him which might have gotten his attention since he decided to speak after a few minutes of silence.

"What are you doing?"

He said furrowing his eyebrows and looking at me. I opened his phone and entered his passcode and turn off his location and put it into airplane mode.

"Turning off your location. I can't risk us being located by my parents somehow."

I said putting his phone down and getting my phone to do the same with mine.

"We need to go back, Charlie."
"I can't go back!"

A mixture of annoyance and saddest came over me so I have no idea my voice will raised answering him back. He seemed surprised so he remained silent.

"I just wanna know what's going on."
"You know I can't tell you that."
"Then I am not going back unless I do."

I said arguing with him and he let out a sigh of frustration. A whole minute of silence goes by and the vibe gets more and more awkward.

He pulled over on the side of the street and let out a defeated sigh.

"Look, I know you wanted to know everything, but trust me, I have a reason for not telling you."
"It's been so hard, Dylan. I don't hear anything from you for weeks, and now that I am here with you, you'd rather have me back than be with you. It's like you don't want me to be with you."
"You have no idea."

He leaned on his seat, slowly shaking his head and I felt my heart sink with those words.

What the hell, Charlie? Why are you still here? He doesn't like you.

I looked away from him and I felt a tear drip down the left side of my cheek. I immediately wiped it off and tried my best to stop crying. I cleared my throat again, and speak after I felt ok to speak.

"So, what now, are you taking me back?"

I said not looking at him and waited for him to answer.

"Can't do that now. I can't let him know you with me."

I looked back at him, now very curious.

"Who's him?"
"Doesn't matter. Is there anyone you can call that can cover for you?"
"I can give Cam a call."
"Your parents know him, right?"
"Yes, we've been friends since were babies, why?"
"Great, tell him to cover your ass while you are gone. We're going back tomorrow. This rain seems to be getting worse."

He said and started the engine of the car again.

"Okay, but where are we going?"
"Shane's grandparents have this cabin in the woods a few hours away from here. No one goes there anymore aside from us. We can stay there."

I nodded my head and he replied with a short smile and started driving to the cabin. He's right, the rain got worse. For the whole car ride the rain did not stop. I can't even see the road anymore even though the wipers are on, I am surprised we even made it to the cabin.

He stopped the car in front of the cabin and I got out of the car running to the front door and he followed after parking the car. He opened the door and I felt cold once we enter the cabin.

The cabin looked nice. It's small and old, but it's clean and there's a fireplace right in the living room which I immediately run to.

"Cold?"

Dylan asked from behind me and I nod sheepishly.

"There's a room upstairs, it had a heater on the shower. You're all wet, you should clean up."
"Alright, but how about you?"
"I'll be fine. I'll go after you are done. I'll go get something for you to wear and eat. There's a store near hear. I'll be gone for a few minutes."

He said starting to pick up the car keys again so I stand up and stopped him by grabbing his jacket slightly.

"But...uh, do you really need to go?"

He looked down to where I'm holding him and then at me. He smiled a little and removed my hand from his jacket.

"I'll be right back. I promise."

I bit my lip and hesitantly nod, and so, he walk away and closed the door.

I sit back at the fireplace, letting out a huge sigh. I found a match so I started the fire and felt the warmth while it slowly burns the firewood. I sit back a few feet away from the fire and embrace myself.

"I am still cold."

I said both literally and metaphorically.
