Charlie's View

I walk down the stairs on my way to the kitchen to get some food. I've been studying for the exams coming up, and my brain needed energy to function, meaning I need to munch on something. When I got to the kitchen, I saw my mom working on something on her laptop. Obviously lawyer stuff, so I greeted her as I go to the fridge.

"Hey, mom, good morning."
"Hi, honey."

She didn't look at me but she smiles, so I proceeded on putting cereals and milk on my bowl. I notice her seemed to be stressed. I approach her by sitting in front of her.

"What's up? You seem a little worked up."
"Ugh, don't even mention it. This client of mine got into some sort of trouble because of his son, and is being a pain on butt apparently."
"Huh, though day at work?"

She sighs and nod at the same time.

"Don't worry mom, you got it."
"Thanks, hon."

She smiled at me and I smile back at her. I'm about to go back upstairs but she stops me.

"Charlie, honey, wait."
"Yeah?"
"Remember the annual gathering Palmers are throwing out every year?"

She's talking about the party Clarity's parents always organize every year for employees and close friends, it like a thanks giving party. And us kids, we usually got drag into that party so we can learn to socialize with business people.

"Yes?"
"Good, the Palmers just send us the invite for the gathering. So, I need you to prepare for it. The party is happening this weekend."

She said said very excited about it. I sheepishly smile, because I don't really wanna go.

"Right...Uh, mom, do I really have to be there? I mean, its bunch of business people, and I'm not really into huge crowd."
"What are you talking about? Of course you have to be there. You need to learn how to socialize with those type of people, because you will be in my position in the future."
"Right."

I said faking smile.

My parents, they are wealthy, and there care so much about their business and image. This is also the reason why I've given up fighting for what I really want. When I told them that I wanted to be a writer they just laughed at me. It sucks, I know. But after numerous times of trying to convince that I don't want this life, and after being rejected so many times, I just stopped. There's no point on fighting for what I want. There's no way I'd win an argument to them. I mean, they are my parents, and maybe they probably know what's best for me. Good thing Clarity will be there. I at least have someone who I can relate to.

The party starts at ten, and my parents and I are already driving to the venue. The Palmer's chose the theme of the party to be masquerade. They are fantastic at throwing parties. They never fail to amaze their guests and each year they pick a theme and everyone loved it every time. I've been attending their parties so trust me, when I say it's glamorous, its ridiculously glamorous.

As expected, many guests are already in the ballroom drinking champagne and eating fancy finger foods that the designated waitress and waiters are assign to serve. Its amazing how crazy fancy this place are. One flaw about this gathering, its only enjoyable for the adults who's thirsty for potential business partners or share holders. Its is a big lake and many fishermen are here to catch their own big fish.

As you can tell, my non-socialite ass is bored already. All I see are adults and all I hear is them talking business. I knew I had to get out of these place. So I do what do best in this kind of situation, find a place to hide.

"Mom, Dad, I have to go to the bathroom." I excuse myself.

"But we just got here, didn't you use the bathroom before we leave already?" Mom asked.

"I already drank two sangria, you know me, my bladder is not good with those type of drinks."

"Alright, but be very quick, Mr. Palmer's speech about to start."

I smirk and nod at her.

"Oh I will be fast mom, I promise." I said slightly sounding sarcastic then she nod at me so find my way  where there's not much people. The garden.

I took off my mask, and breathe in the fresh air. This place is perfect. There ia no one here so I can do what ever I wan--

My thoughts were interrupted when suddenly someone pull me into a hug, swaying me around like we're dancing.

"You look so beautiful."

He said in a familiar voice. I frown and I pull out slighty off the hug so I can see who it was. He had a mask on, but that didn't stop me from knowing who it was.

"Dylan?"

I asked, pretty suprised by the fact he's here.

"Hi baby."

He smiles, then undo his mask from the back of his head, then I once again saw his pair of gorgeous eyes. He pulls me closer, and continued swaying me, dancing to the beat of tbe classic jazz music coming from the ball room.  So put my arms on his shoulders and dance with him.

"How did you get in here?"

"I got an invite from Clarity last night. The boys are here too so, yeah, that's how. But you lady, you look like you're not enjoying yourself?"

"I am not. I'm never a fan of crowds, especially this type of crowd. I just don't feel like I fit in."

"How can you say that? This party is gorgeous, just like you."

"That's sweet, but that's not what I meant."

He slightly grin and nod his head understanding.

"I know what you're talking about. I used to attend parties like this too. But it was no fun than the usual parties I go to."

"Talking about the party that gets you high and drunk at the same time, you decided to drunk text and call someone and snucked in her room and stole a kiss from her?"

"And look at what she is now, my girlfriend."

I chuckled and I rest my  head on his, letting out a good sigh.

"I'm really glad you're here. This party is less boring now that you're here."

"Do you wanna make it fun then?"

He asked and I looked at him with excitement. He wiggles his eyebrows and that's how he got me.

"Let's do it."
