The next few days leading up to my mission went by fast, nothing really happening since it was just Price and I left. I'd usually just wake up late, go training, then go back to sleep early into the morning hours. That was my schedule until it was finally the day of the mission.
Price had let me know the day before that the chopper should be collecting me in the evening, around 6pm and that i was expected to be fully kitted out with extremely minimal equipment that could way me down since he emphasised again that the area was already cleared. I had also been instructed not to bring any weapons but had secretly taken the pocket knife that Simon had given me. I sat in my room waiting for 6, i was fully in my kit just without the backplates since they weighed a ton and my only weapon being one of Simon's pocket knives that he had given to me on one of our many missions. I smiled as i fiddled with it in my hands, the feeling of the cold steal as it glided between my fingers and all the memories i had with Ghost from it flooding back into my head. I stopped for a moment, checking my watch and seeing that there was only a few minutes left before 6, prompting me to do last minute adjustments to my kit; tightening my bullet proof vest, making sure my boots were laced properly, putting my helmet on, and making sure Simon's dog tags were beneath all my layers and against my skin so i could keep him close.
I took my time as i went up to the helipad. I stood out on the helipad, looking off on the horizon wondering from where abouts the helicopter would emerge from the clouds. I had tried to block it out of my memories but Price and i had had a dispute the night before over the mission and what happened with Gaz, it was a pretty big fight. Glasses and furniture had been broken and there had been a lot of yelling. I knew that Price probably wouldn't come up to salute me off but secretly deep down i wished that he would. Soon the helicopter appeared and touched down gracefully, a light drizzle of rain rolling off its sleek black fiber edges. I watched as one of its large doors slid open and i special forces officer stepped out in a sleek all dark grey-black uniform, a large ak on his waist that matched well with the rest of his outfit. he had a black balaclava on that just covered the lower half of his face and he had dark green eyes that stood out against his pale skin.
I saluted him as he approached me. "At ease. Lieutenant y/n l/n, correct?" he asked in his deep husky voice as he checked a dark blue file professionally. "sir, yes sir." i said back unfazed by his somewhat scary appearance and tone since to be honest, by the look of him it was obvious that Laswell has a better fashion taste for her soldiers than Price. He looked me up and down before nodding and looking around. "Is Price not going to salute you off, lieutenant?" the officer asked as his gaze found its way back to mine. "No, sir." i said back as i looked away, my tone and gaze becoming cold as i thought about Price. "Well if you say so..." the officer seemed skeptical at first but soon just led me into the back of the helicopter where there was a sergeant dressed just like him just with a different rank. i walked over cautiously and sat down hesitantly next to the sergeant.
As the chopper took off again i thought about how i never got a proper goodbye to anyone before the mission, and now it's the same whilst u go on this mission, no proper goodbye. My hand anxiously felt the fabric of my camp print cargos between my fingers a i thought silently, my eyes staring coldly ahead aimlessly. The only think that snapped me out of my thought was the once again graceful but noticeable landing. My head instinctively looked out the window, seeing that it was now raining heavily against the tinted out windows of this helicopter, making it almost impossible to see anything. "Weathers a bit bad for June, no?" said the sergeant next to me which surprised me since for some reason i thought it would have been protocol to not interact with task forces outside of your own division. "yeah- yeah, i guess it is.." i said back after a moment of pause as my eyes looked over to meet his, although they were stopped by the wrap around bike glasses that he was wearing.
As the sergeant and i stepped out of the chopper and my boot slouched into the saturated mud which was now covering the ground we were met with more soldiers, dressed just like the sergeant and officer which indicated to me that they too were Laswell's. "Lieutenant." said a new officer that was amongst the group of other soldiers as he nodded at me. "officer." i said calmly as i nodded back, before continuing walking as the original officer and sergeant led me through the heavy rain, both clutching their ak's in their hands across their chests firmly.
We came up to a road where there was a concrete wall with a opening, two soldiers guarding either side. "Well, here is where we have to leave you on your own. I presume that you were trained and informed as to where the file is located." Said the officer as he stopped and turned to me, right before the opening in the brutalist wall. "Yes, sir. If i may ask, why am i the only one who can go in, and ye can't?" I asked curiously back as i looked up at him, both our eyes squinting to make out eachother in the heavy rainfall. "Our contracts with Laswell limit boarders we can cross and enter.. Price tends to be a bit more unprofessional when it comes to fine text and terms and conditions, which means you can enter."
i paused for a moment thinking about what he said about Price before whispering under my breath. "your telling me..."
