Chapter 44
"Do you think he'll like the dress?" It's the seventh time today that Natalia had a nervous breakdown and asked Hannah and Genesis that question. "Honey, he'll love it," Hannah says, "He loves you so whatever dress you wear, he's probably going to cry because of joy."
Genesis nods in agreement, she doesn't want to say the wrong thing and upset Natalia over again. Luckily Hannah is the good one with words and Genesis knows to stay quiet and let Hannah do the talking.
Eventually, they do get Natalia down towards the doors to get ready and walk down the aisle. Her father is the one to walk her down the aisle. "Did you have a bridal party?" Hannah asks Genesis. Ginny shakes her head. "I was homeschooled most of my life because my dad was scared I'd get boyfriends and would run away and marry someone other than Gael," Genesis explains.
"He was right though, I did have a boyfriend other than Gael," she admits. Hannah's jaw drops. "Someone else? Call him!" she cheers. Genesis shakes her head, laughing. "No, I'm good," she answers. Hannah ends the conversation because they join the others.
The others include Gael.
Since Hannah was the maid of honor and he's the best man, they have to walk together. Genesis is supposed to walk with James. Gael notices her and he takes a deep breath in at the sight of her.
She's wearing a beige dress, made of a shimmery fabric. There's a slit that exposes her leg. It's obvious that the girl got a tan. She looks absolutely stunning with her hair tied up and there are two small locks on each side of her face shaping it. Her makeup isn't too much but just enough to accentuate every single detail of her face that he loves.
"Eyes in front of you, Gael," Hannah orders when she notices him staring. The group lines up and the organ starts playing when the doors open. Gael and Hannah walk first, then James and Genesis, then Sebastian who walks alone.
Mattias is watching online, and Genesis learned, he can't show his face at this type of event. Genesis remembers the question the police asked her and she's wondering if Gael's already found out about him being investigated. She didn't tell him and Hannah claimed she hasn't talked to him at all.
She walks down the aisle and then takes her position behind Hannah on the bride's side. Gael's standing less than two feet away from her, he's the closest to her he's been in 4 months. Genesis can feel his eyes burning onto her but she doesn't move an inch, she tries to focus on Natalia who's walking down the aisle and who's about to get married. But all she's thinking about is her ex-husband who she still loves and who is standing right in front of her and whose eyes are glued on her.
Gael's best friend is getting married but now that she's standing right in front of him, there's so much he wants to say to her.
Natalia and Jackson exchange their vows. Genesis wants to pay attention to their words but every time she looks up, her eyes meet those focused on her. Eventually, she does give in, she looks right at him and furrows her eyebrows together before looking at Jackson. Gael gets what she's trying to say, he understands that she wants him to stop looking at her, and focus on the wedding.
He doesn't. The moment their eyes meet, he smiles. The little detail that changes in his eyes immediately reminds Ginny of everything that she fell in love with and she bites the inside of her cheek to stop herself from hurting.
The ceremony ends after what feels like forever and Genesis is struggling to keep herself up. After the bride and groom leave, Genesis leaves with the rest of the group. She goes outside to get some fresh air and waits for a while. "Genesis," Gael speaks up.
