Chapter 19
Gael quickly fixes his tie and he looks in the mirror. He saved himself from some bruises last night by not attending that fight. Genesis is already awake and she has been for a few minutes, but her head feels too heavy to get up and talk to him. Gael looks at her through the mirror and he instantly feels overwhelmed with the events from last night.
"By the end of the day I'd like a concept for that party I asked you about," Gael says and he turns around to look at her. Genesis nods. "Yeah," she moans out and she breathes out, turning to her back so she's looking at the ceiling. She knows he needs some time before he can come back from this completely.
Gael fixes his jacket and he looks at the girl in his bed. She is a vision. "Mattias left to go back home," he answers, "I had him fly back there tonight."
Mattias left at night, he didn't say goodbye to Genesis. The girl nods and she cuddles into his pillows. "When you leave, please also make up the bed because I don't have time to do it now," he says and then he leaves the room to go to work.
She can hear the front door opening, then closing again. The car engines alert her that he's leaving and she finally finds the courage to get up, but as soon as she does, she can feel the alcohol from last night flying up her stomach. She's not entirely sure how she's supposed to get through the day, but she's going to have to.
"I'm sorry if I'm overstepping, but did something happen?" Marcus asks, effortlessly driving through the busy streets of Manhattan. "You're overstepping," Gael answers in a monotone voice, technically he trusts Marcus with what's happening and he'd never even consider firing the guy for this because they always talk about personal things. Marcus is the only one working for Gael that he actually does trust with his personal life.
Marcus immediately understands and he drives to the office. Gael sits in the backseat and he looks out the window, he's looking but he doesn't actually pay attention to whatever it is his eyes are capturing.
Gael wanted to be mad at her, he wanted to be pissed off at her, but instead, he wishes he would've known earlier so he could've shown her off while still protecting her. Something could've happened and he might've never found out what happened because she never told him. After all, she was hiding that from him.
Gael walks over to his office and then he quickly types out an e-mail to invite everyone important to the party. He also adds that the date is yet to be announced but that they have to pay attention to their email so that he can invite them when it's necessary.
The phone to his office rings and he picks it up because it doesn't have any caller ID. "Gael Mayfield," he announces himself on the phone. "Gael, lunch, mine and Jackson's place," Natalia says and the phone disconnects before Gael has the chance to say anything. He smiles slightly and shakes his head, absolutely hating his friends but at the same time, he adores them.
Johnathan doesn't come by and Gael acts like his best self, talking to everyone on his floor, talking to other people of value. He starts some new projects and also emails the people who are going to be involved. The worry that his father might actually succeed in kicking him off the CEO position washes away with every compliment that he's getting.
When lunchtime rolls around, he goes out to the car waiting for him. He gets in and groans when he unbuttons his suit. "We have to go to Natalia and Jackson's place," Gael tells Marcus and he leans back in his seat. Marcus smiles to himself that Gael's actually going to his friends to fix things.
Marcus drives to the house and pulls up to the house. Natalia looks out the window, spotting the car, and she panics. She hadn't told Genesis that Gael was coming and she hadn't told Gael that Genesis was coming. It might be too soon to force the two into a room, but she wanted to make sure they'd actually come.
