Chapter 37*
"You look nervous," Gael observed Genesis correctly. She hasn't talked a lot during the drive to the airport and once they were on the plane towards Hawaii, she didn't sleep, despite the flight taking hours. She didn't even look like she needed any.
Genesis looks up at him. "Why would I be?" She blurts out, the girl's a terrible secret keeper, and finding out it's your husband's birthday tomorrow and you're keeping it from him that you've actually arranged a birthday party for him. "I don't know," he says, looking at her.
They're seated in the exact same position as they did when they went to Cabo, Genesis honestly doesn't know what to do so she's just sitting and staring at the seat in front of her. Gael gets up and he moves to that exact seat, then he takes both of Ginny's hands in his.
Genesis is a people pleaser, she probably got the cheapest hotel because she's already staying more days than Johnathan intended. "You know that whatever you've picked, I'll love it," he assures her, hoping that she'll be okay. Genesis looks at him and she realizes that he's already preparing for the worst hotel that she could've picked.
Normally, she would've been mad, but she can reflect enough to recognize that her behavior is the reason he's assuming the worst. "Even Hannah said you'd love the hotel, Gael," Genesis says, looking up at him, "unironically."
"You showed Hannah and not me?" Gael jokes to bring light to the conversation, hoping that'll cheer her up. "Duh, she's one of my best friends," she tells him, "I didn't show you because it's a surprise –" she abruptly cuts off her sentence because she was about to say that it was a surprise for his birthday, although she didn't know that when she booked it. "She said I'd unironically love the hotel?" Gael asks her.
"Yes," Genesis answers. Gael leans back in his seat, letting go of her hands but his curiosity is getting the best of him. "If Hawaii wasn't filled with hotels, I would've figured it out by now," Gael says, "Can't you just tell me where we're going?"
His question is interrupted by the pilot of their plane announcing that they're about to land. Gael buckles up and he finishes his drink so the crew can start cleaning up. "I'm excited," he says, "Is this the first time you've planned something for me instead of the other way around?"
Genesis nods and she checks the time, the flight was over 10 hours and the time difference is 6 hours, so technically they've gone back in time. "It's still dinner time here, let's get something to eat and then we can get some sleep," she suggests. Gael nods and he looks at her, his eyes are glued on her, "Whatever you say, Genesis."
She narrows her eyes. "You're saying that I'm in charge?" She smirks and Gael nods. "Good," she adds. Gael chuckles and he buckles up, closing his eyes. Genesis buckles up as well and she waits for the plane to land.
The sun is still out and the plane hits the ground. They get off the plane and get their stuff. "You got us a car?" Gael asks, spotting the convertible waiting for us. The car is a BMW and honestly, Genesis picked it because it looked pretty. "Yes," she says, "And I'm driving."
"You've been to Hawaii before?" Gael asks and Genesis opens the trunk so that their suitcases can get in. "Luckily I didn't let you pack a lot," she says, stepping aside so Gael can get the suitcases in. He does effortlessly so and then walks to the passenger's seat, he's not used to this, but he knows that he should trust Genesis on this.
"I was expecting us to get flower necklaces," Genesis admits, starting the car before driving off. She's been doing research on how to properly drive here so it's just getting used to putting it into practice but she's doing just fine. Gael's hand is resting on her thigh and every now and then he squeezes it, then he slightly moves it up.
