Ginevra knocked on Vitto's door hoping he would answer. He was still ignoring all of her calls and texts but maybe she could reason with him in person. Vitto opened the door, his expression dropping when he saw who it was. "What do you want?" he asked.
"Can we talk?" Ginevra asked.
"What is there to talk about?" Vitto asked.
"Vitto, please," Ginevra said.
"Fine," Vitto said opening up the door for her to come in, "My moms gone getting groceries. You have until she gets back." The two stood awkwardly in the foyer of the house.
"Well first I just want to say I'm sorry," Ginevra said, "As soon as Nicco kissed me I should have pushed him away. I shouldn't have even gone to his house but I needed to ask him something for someone."
"What and for who?" Vitto asked.
"I can't say," Ginevra said.
"That's exactly the problem," Vitto said, "You're always keeping stuff from me."
"Look Chiara needed Brando's phone password for some reason and I knew Nicco would have it," Ginevra said, "I was just trying to help out my friend."
"Why did Chiara need Brando's password?" Vitto asked.
"I don't exactly know. I guess he had something on her that she needed to delete," Ginevra said.
"So you went to Nicco's for that?" Vitto asked.
"Yes. I swear," Ginevra said.
"Why didn't you just ask him at school?" Vitto asked.
"I didn't want anyone to hear me asking him," Ginevra said, "Chiara didn't want anyone to know."
"That still doesn't explain why you didn't tell me that he said he loved you," Vitto said.
"I didn't tell you about that because I was confused myself," Ginevra said, "After he told me I asked him to leave. I was just trying to process everything. And when he kissed me I felt guilty. I wanted to call you and tell you immediately but I knew it would be better to do it in person." Vitto sighed rubbing his hands down his face.
"Do you love him?" Vitto asked. Ginevra was taken aback by the question. She hadn't expected him to ask her that.
"I do," Ginevra said. There was no point in lying to him at this point. Silence fell over the two as she looked down at her hands. "Are you mad at me?"
"No," Vitto admitted, "I think I've always known he liked you. You were harder to read but I think that's just because I didn't really know you well enough. I always noticed how you two would steal glances at one another when you thought no one was looking. I tried to just ignore it."
"Vitto, I'm sorry," Ginevra said, "Nicco was with Virginia and I was just trying to deny my feelings for him because he hurt me. I never meant to hurt you in the process of everything."
"It's all right Ginevra," Vitto said, "I'm obviously hurt that you guys kissed while we were together, but I still care about you. If Nicco is who makes you happy you should be with him."
"You're too kind Vitto," Ginevra said, "You're gonna make a girl very happy one day."
"Yeah, yeah," Vitto said rolling his eyes and making her laugh, "And I did give Nicco a pretty good black eye earlier. I don't know if kind would be the word to describe me."
"Yeah it looked like you hit him pretty hard," Gienvra said.
"So, friends?" Vitto asked.
"You still want to be friends with me?" Ginevra asked.
"Yeah. I mean you are pretty cool," Vitto said, "Not to mention you've kind of grown to be one of my best friends."
"I'd like that," Ginevra smiled.
"So you and Nicco now huh?" Vitto asked. Ginevra's talk with a Nicco quickly came rushing back to her. Now that Virginia is pregnant there was no way they could be together.
"No," Ginevra said.
"What?" Vitto asked, "You just told me you loved him."
"I do," she admitted.
"And he loves you?" Vitto asked.
"That's what he told me," Ginevra said.
"So then what's the issue?" Vitto asked. Ginevra looked back down, playing with the ring on her finger. Tears started to fall down her cheek as she sniffled. "Hey, hey, hey. What's wrong?"
Vitto walked closer to the girl, pulling her into a hug. "He and Virginia are getting back together," Ginevra cried.
"Why would he get back together with her?" Vitto asked, "Does he know that you feel the same way."
"I went and saw him yesterday night and told him how I felt," Ginevra said, "I was laying on my bed replaying the events of the past few days when I realized that I loved him."
"I don't understand why he would get back with Virginia if you two both love each other," Vitto said pulling away from the hug confused. He kept his hands on her shoulders trying to comfort her.
"He told me that Virginia is pregnant," Ginevra said. As soon as the words left her lips she broke down. Sure she had known for several hours now but she hadn't really given herself time to process it. She hadn't said the words out loud until this very moment. Vitto held the girl as she cried. He rubbed her back trying his best to comfort her.
"It's gonna be all right, Ginevra," Vitto assured. She couldn't help but laugh to herself. She had just been doing this exact same thing assuring Nicco that everything would be all right.
"Funny that I was doing this exact thing trying to assure Nicco that everything would be all right just last night," Ginevra said pulling away from the hug and wiping her tears.
"Do you want to go to my room for a little bit?" Vitto asked.
"No I'm sure your mom will be back soon," Ginevra said, "I should probably get going."
"Stay," Vitto said grabbing her hand, "Please." Ginevra nodded her head as Vitto lead her back to his room. The boy lay on his back on the bed. She climb beside him putting her head on his chest as he played with her hair.
"You truly love him?" Vitto asked.
"I do," Ginevra said.
"Then you can't give up," Vitto said.
"Even if he and Virginia don't get back together they're still going to have a baby to raise together," Ginevra said.
"Maybe she's not actually pregnant," Vitto said.
"He said she took a test," Ginevra said.
"They can be wrong sometimes can't they?" Vitto asked, "Like a false positive?"
"I mean yeah sometimes," Ginevra said, "But it's not very common."
"Either way Ginevra you can't give up," Vitto said, "You should never give up on love. No matter how impossible it seems."
