"What time does your flight get in tomorrow?" Larissa asked me from the other side of the phone.

"I should get there around 2." I smiled brightly at her through the screen.

"Ahh! I'm so excited to finally meet you in person!" She squealed.

I couldn't help but giggle at my future roommate. I was beyond excited to take the step and move away from Maine. California was on the literal opposite side of the country and I couldn't wait to be there. It had been pretty nerve wracking searching for places to live, especially when I'd never been there before and had no idea what I was really looking for. I got lucky when I found Larissa, we hit it off immediately so I knew it was the right choice and I couldn't wait to officially move in with her tomorrow.

"I'm excited to finally meet you too." I said with a laugh.

To say I was nervous was an understatement. I'd never really been out of my small hometown so this was a huge deal to me. I was just tired of being in a place that no longer brought me joy. I had no idea what California was going to hold for me, but I was feeling more hopeful than I'd felt in a long time and that was enough to bring me excitement.

"Should I make a huge, embarrassing sign for you?" She joked.

At least I think she was joking.

I rolled my eyes. "Please, do not. Or I'll have to find a new roommate."

Larissa gasped. "You haven't even seen the apartment and you're already talking about getting a new roommate?!"

"If you bring an embarrassing sign with you to pick me up from the airport and that is how I meet you in person, yes I will be finding a new place to live and a new roommate." I laughed.

Larissa rolled her eyes but nodded. "Okay, fine. I won't bring an embarrassing sign with me." She agreed.

"But! you better make sure that you get a ton of sleep tonight because I have so much to show you when you get here! I'm so excited to show you around! You're going to love it so much I just know it!" She said, her voice full of excitement.

I loved how excited she was about everything, it was already making me feel more comfortable and even more excited to go. I'd never really had girlfriends before so this was a new thing for me. I liked how easily the two of us got along and I hoped that it stayed that way even after I was there.

"Aves! Come here, I need to show you something!" I heard my brother call me from down the hall.

"Uhh, let me call you back. My brother needs me." I said before sitting up on my bed.

"Ooooh, tell hottie brother I said hi!" She giggled.

I fake gagged at her comment before saying, "gross. I think his girlfriend is here too, so sorry about that one."

She rolled her eyes but nodded. "Whatever, text me later!"

We said our goodbyes and I threw my phone on the bed before walking down the hallway of my brother's apartment.

"What do you need to show me?" I asked as I got closer to the living room. I didn't see him when I walked into the room so I called out his name.

"Kitchen!" He called.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes. I figured he wanted to show me something stupid and he couldn't even meet me halfway. I turned to the left so that I could walk into the kitchen. As soon as I walked into the kitchen I saw my brother standing there with two other bodies next to him.
