The weight of embarrassment was suffocating.
Third Person Pov
Shirabu wandered through the bustling school festival, his mind preoccupied with the recent awkwardness between him and Semi.
It had been a challenging time, with both of them deliberately avoiding each other. He had been hoping time would heal the unease he felt after their what happened, but things were far from normal.
Lost in his thoughts, Shirabu was taken by surprise when Kai appeared beside him. "Hey, Shirabu," Kai greeted with a grin, his tone light.
Shirabu returned the smile, though his expression still carried the weight of his contemplations. "Oh, hi Kai," he responded, his voice soft.
Kai's perceptiveness kicked in as he picked up on Shirabu's subdued expression. "What's with the downcast face? Did you miss out on the corn dogs? Don't worry, I'm in the same boat," he remarked humorously.
Shirabu chuckled, appreciating the attempt to lighten the mood. "It's not about the corn dogs. It's just... the weather is a bit warm today," he explained, making an excuse
Kai nodded in understanding. "Yeah, it's pretty hot out here. I guess we lucked out with the festival falling on such a day."
"Yeah," Shirabu agreed with a nod.
"Anyway," Kai changed the topic, "want to grab some snacks? There's free food being offered over there."
Shirabu considered for a moment before responding. "I'm not that hungry at the moment, but thanks."
Kai's persisted. "No worries. How about a drink then? It's crucial to stay hydrated."
Shirabu appreciated the concern and nodded. "Sure, water sounds good right now."
They navigated through the festival until they reached the refreshment area. Shirabu couldn't help but feel a twinge of gratitude for Kai's effort to engage him in a normal conversation.
They engaged in easy conversation, discussing various attractions at the festival and the performances they had watched. It was a simple, friendly exchange that momentarily distracted Shirabu from the complicated thoughts he had been grappling with.
As they continued their talk, Shirabu couldn't help but notice someone's eyes on them watching them from a distance. It was Semi. A mix of surprise and something else flashed across Semi's face before he turned away. Shirabu was a bit confused.
Kai caught Shirabu's attention again, and they continued to chat as they leaned against a nearby wall.
As they chatted, Semi watched from a distance, a growing sense of frustration gnawing at him. He couldn't stand seeing Shirabu with Kai, even if it was just an innocent conversation. Unable to suppress his emotions any longer, Semi decided to walk up to them
Out of the corner of his eye, Shirabu noticed Semi approaching them. Before he could react, Semi's lips were on his, leaving him stunned and wide-eyed.
The quick, unexpected kiss sent a jolt of confusion and warmth through him. As Semi pulled away, a mixture of emotions played across Shirabu's face – surprise, fluster, and annoyance.
Semi's eyes followed Kai's form from head to toe, his gaze laden with an unfriendly glare of disapproval. It was a clear display of his discomfort with the situation, and Kai's reaction was nothing short of agitation.
Kai's response was quick as he excused himself from the moment, his voice filled with unease. "I should get going and see what else there is around."
Shirabu's voice lowered, "Oh, okay," he murmured
"Bye," Kai offered a wave before turning and walking away,
Shirabu's nod was a simple acknowledgement, but his thoughts were far from settled as he watched Kai walk away, leaving Shirabu and Semi standing there
Shirabu turned to Semi, his cheeks slightly flushed. "Semi, what was that about? It was just a small conversation."
Semi's expression held a mix of frustration and longing. "I couldn't stand seeing you with him."
Crossing his arms, Shirabu said, "You can't just kiss me whenever you feel like it." A sigh escaped his lips. "Semi, this isn't helping. We can't keep acting like this."
"Is this because of what the other night?" Semi's tone grew serious
Shirabu looked at him, his emotions a jumble. "No, not really"
Semi's voice was gentle. "Are you feeling any better about it?"
Shirabu hesitated for a moment before answering. "Yeah, I guess"
"I'm sorry about what I did," Semi said, his lips becoming straight
Shirabu's annoyance wavered, as he looked down, his voice softer. "It's not just you. I shouldn't have let things get out of hand either."
Semi's hand found its way to Shirabu's, his touch warm and comforting. "A lot happened. We were both drunk, and we both made choices."
Shirabu nodded, his guard slowly lowering as he met Semi's eyes. "I just... I don't want things to be weird between us."
Semi's grip tightened slightly, and he looked earnestly at Shirabu. "I don't want that either."
They stood in silence for a moment, the weight of their unspoken thoughts hanging heavy in the air
"Let's not talk about it anymore, forget it ever happened" Semi's eyebrows rose
"Yeah, I would prefer that" I nodded
Breaking the tension, Semi tried to lighten the atmosphere. "So, how are you finding the festival?"
Shirabu appreciated the effort to steer the conversation away from their awkwardness. He managed a small smile. "It's been good. Lots of interesting stuff to see."
Semi nodded, a genuine smile tugging at his lips. "Maybe we should actually enjoy the festival together, without all this weirdness."
Shirabu felt a small spark of hope igniting within him. "Yeah, maybe we should."
And just like that, that night was forgotten.
But to them, it really wasn't
