I was six months pregnant but I was smaller than I was with Winter. Our baby girl was progressing normally though and she was doing great. That was what mattered to Austin and I. Winter was excited to be a big sister and was helping with setting up the baby room. Winter was going to be such an amazing older sister.
I was also starting school in the fall. The baby's due date was in May and I would have a couple months to prepare for being around the baby and for childcare. I wanted some time with my family before diving into school. I had found a job at a bar and I had been working as a bartender for about three months. The bar was willing to give me a few weeks of maternity leave, which was amazing since I hadn't been working for very long.
I walked with Winter into the recording studio. We were bringing Austin lunch and we were possibly meeting someone he was making a song with. Austin wouldn't say who it was but he liked the artist.
Winter skipped ahead of me, already knowing where to go. She was getting well acquainted with her leg and was getting very used to it. I followed her into the recording studio and we found Austin in front of the window, watching a woman sing inside the booth. He smiled at us and continued watching. Winter went over and leaned against him, looking through the window.
I stood behind them, crossing my arms as I watched the woman sing. She looked quite familiar and had a very beautiful voice. In a few minutes, she came out to grab some water and talk with Austin.
"Is this your family?" she asked after taking a sip of water.
"Yes, it is," Austin answered. "This is my wife, Mack, and my daughter, Winter."
I held out my hand. "It's nice to meet you."
She smiled as she shook my hand. "I'm Amala, also known as Doja Cat. I'm going to be on Austin's new album. You're a lovely family."
"Thanks," I said. "Winter here is very interested in making music so she hangs around here a lot with Austin."
Doja grinned at Winter. "That's great! What do you play?"
Winter nervously huddled against Austin, who placed an arm around her. "I play a lot of things. Recently, I've been learning how to play the drums. But I like playing the trumpet and saxophone."
"Those are all great instruments," Doja said. "Do you plan on being an artist like your dad?"
Winter shrugged a little. "I don't know but I have Dad to help me if I want it."
"That's a great idea," Doja said. "Do you want to watch? I'm sure that Austin will show you how to use these fancy buttons and everything."
Winter nodded, too shy to answer. Doja spent a little longer outside of the booth before going back in. Austin showed her what he was doing with the music and sounds. I watched, the food I had brought still next to me. Luckily, I had brought extra food and had some extra for Doja for when she was ready.
She came out after awhile and we all sat down to eat. Doja was an interesting person to get to know. She was nice to Winter and talked about the music industry with her. Austin also added his side of things too. Winter was very interested and listened very intently. I hoped that everything they were telling Winter didn't stop her from pursuing her dreams of being a musician.
We spent a few more hours at the recording studio before we left. We got to hear one of Austin's new songs and it was quite interesting learning how the process of making music was. Winter seemed excited to have met Doja as she was one of the artists Winter listened to often.
After we returned home, Winter got on doing her homework. It was day off from school but that didn't mean she couldn't avoid school. I started cleaning up a little bit before starting dinner. I wanted to mostly be done by the time Austin got home. I knew after a long day of working, a nice meal that was ready to eat was welcoming.
He came home as I was finishing making dinner. He set his stuff down and came to the kitchen to kiss me as I finished dinner.
He wrapped his arms around my waist. "It smells great in here."
"Thanks," I said. "I thought you'd like to have something to eat when you got home."
Austin kissed my neck. "Thank you. It was a long day."
"Doja seems nice," I said as I finished the food. "Do you mind grabbing some plates?"
Austin grabbed plates and utensils. "She is. It was just a long and packed day."
"Sounds rough," I said. "Winter! It's time for dinner!"
Winter came in a few minutes, sitting in her spot. She looked a bit tired but had a smile on her face. Dinner was mostly quiet as we were all tired. When dinner was done, Winter went to her room after helping clean and Austin helped me with the dishes. The two of us went to our room and got into bed to watch a movie. Austin had a hand on my stomach, feeling the occasional kick from our baby.
"I'm having a hard time writing music," Austin murmured. "I don't know why but I'm in a slump. I don't know what's wrong."
I rubbed one of his shoulders. "I'm sure something will come to you. You've been to the studio a lot and you made a song with Doja Cat. That's a plus."
"I still don't have enough songs for a full album," Austin said, sighing. "I only need a few more but I'm worried that I won't have it in time."
"Inspiration will come to you, baby," I said. "I believe in you, Austin Post."
Austin smiled. "Thanks, baby. You're the best wife."
"I try to be," I said. "Do you want to go to bed? It's late and we have to be up early."
"Yeah," Austin said. "I'll get the light."
Austin turned the light off before getting back in bed. I snuggled into him and tried to go to bed. The baby was restless though and kicked for the first part of the night. I was finally able to get to bed at about eleven at night. It was a rough night as I was up a couple times because of the baby kicking or not feeling too good. It was one of the few things I did not miss about being pregnant. I was finally able to get some good sleep in the early hours of the night.
