I showed up to my appointment alone. Winter was spending most of the day at school and Austin was going to be at the recording studio for several hours. I was able to hide the tests and the appointment so that nobody else would find out.
I sat in the waiting room, waiting patiently for them to call me back. It only took a few minutes for my name to be called. I went back into the room, though I was only in there for a minute or two before the doctor came in. She asked me a few questions before we started with the ultrasound.
A moment later, a little spot showed up on the screen. The doctor began talking about the little baby in my stomach. I was only a few weeks along and it was too early to tell the gender but the doctor said everything else looked okay. She gave me some more information after the ultrasound and I was sent on my way.
I left the doctors and went straight to the store. I found a baby onesie that said daddy, I can't wait to meet you. I got a gift bag and some paper before leaving. At home, I put the present together and put it on the coffle table for Austin when he got home. I had to pick up Winter from school but didn't tell her about my pregnancy. I wanted her to find out at the same time as Austin.
I sent Winter to the kitchen to do her homework while I sat in the living room. The present was sitting in front of me. Austin came in at about four o'clock. He set his stuff down by the door and came over to kiss me.
He noticed the gift as he sat next to me. "What's this?"
"It's for you and Winter," I said. "Winter, baby, can you come in here for a second?"
Winter came in and joined us on the couch. Austin opened the gift and pulled out the onesie. It took him a second to understand what it meant before he looked at me.
"Are you telling me you're pregnant?" Austin asked.
"Yes, I am," I said. "You're going to be a father."
"I'm going to have a baby sibling?" Winter exclaimed. She got up and started jumping around, screaming in excitement. I watched her with a smile as Austin held me close.
Winter flung herself at us to hug us. "I can't believe it! I'm going to have a sibling. Oh, I hope it's a girl! I want a sister."
I ruffled her hair. "It's too early to tell right now. I'm only a few weeks along."
Winter was all smiles. "I love the idea of having a sibling. I've been waiting for years."
"I'm glad to be of service," I said. "You can help pick out names though. Why don't you go grab a piece of paper so we can start writing them down?"
Winter turned and went to do that. Austin and I had a moment to ourselves.
Austin squeezed me tight. "I can't wait for our future, baby. I've always wanted kids and you're the perfect person to have them with."
"I think the same too," I said. "I just didn't expect us to have kids so soon."
"It happens sometimes," Austin said. "But we can do this. I raised Winter on my own so it'll be a lot easier with you by my side."
Austin kissed my temple as Winter came back into the room. She had a few sheets of paper with her and a pencil. She sat at the coffee table and asked us for names. She even wrote a few names that she had thought of. Winter was excited to think of names.
After some time, I started making dinner. Winter stayed in the living room while Austin came into the kitchen to help me. According to him, he didn't want a pregnant woman doing all the work while he was able to help. We stayed in the kitchen for a little bit until the dishes were completely done and the counters were clean.
