I got ready to go to the doctor's appointment. It was finally time to see what the gender of the baby was. I was twelve weeks pregnant and I was excited to know what gender the baby was. Austin was coming with me. He wanted to be as present at the appointments as he could be and I appreciated that. He was a good man to me and he was going to be a better man to our children.
We arrived and sat in the waiting room. We were only in there for a couple minutes before we were called back to the room. The nurse checked me out and left to update the doctor. The doctor, Dr. Wilson, came in a few minutes afterwards and had me lift my shirt up. She squirted the gel on my stomach and started moving the wand around. Our little baby showed up on the screen with the most adorable face.
"Do you want to know the sex?" Dr. Wilson asked.
"Yes, we do," I said, watching the screen.
"It's a girl," Dr. Wilson said. "She looks very healthy and is progressing wonderfully."
"That's great!" Austin said, taking my hand.
"Do you have any names yet?" Dr. Wilson asked. "Or still talking about it?"
I squeezed Austin's hand. "We're still thinking about it."
"Well, we'll schedule another appointment for a checkup," Dr. Wilson said as she pulled the ultrasound wand away. "Everything looks good now."
I pulled my shirt down and sat up. "Thank you, Doctor."
"Now that you're coming into your second trimester, you'll be seeing a few more changes," Dr. Wilson said. "You'll get more lower back pain and more frequent trips to the bathroom. Usually at about twenty weeks, you'll start feeling the baby move."
"Okay," I said. "Any complications we should know about?"
"There's a chance of bleeding, preeclampsia, preterm labor, and blood clots," Dr. Wilson replied. "I'm not worried about that as your baby looks healthy and you're in good health. We will know more as your pregnancy continues but as of now, I wouldn't worry about any of that."
"Okay, that's great," I said. "We'll see you in a couple weeks, yeah?"
Dr. Wilson nodded. "Yes, we'll see you then."
Austin and I left the office. It was lunchtime and Austin decided to take me out to eat. Ever since he found out that I was pregnant, he had been spoiling the hell out of me. I didn't mind as it reminded me of when I was pregnant with Winter and how Anmol treated me. Both men were phenomenal at treating me well.
Once we got home, I got onto my computer and started looking into colleges in the area. I was thinking of taking online classes so I would be able to stay at home with my children and take care of the house. I hadn't brought it up to Austin at that time as I didn't know how to bring it up. I wanted to take classes to have a better chance of a better job but I didn't want it to be a financial burden on Austin.
I found a college with a few degrees that I liked, the University of Utah. The two that I liked the most and felt were more my style were music and parks, recreation, and tourism. I liked being outdoors and I had a lot of experience in working with people. I also had a lot of experience with music as I had played multiple instruments basically my entire life.
I took a deep breath and applied to both programs. I got up to find Austin to tell him about it. He was outside smoking a cigarette. He greeted me as I sat next to him.
"What's up?" Austin asked.
"I applied to the University of Utah," I said.
Austin looked at me, looking a bit surprised. "Really? For what?"
