9 year old

Matilda was a quiet nine-year-old playing with her dolls on a night that she thought was ordinary but ended up having her favourite person leave. Having played with many dolls her dad got her from all the birthdays they celebrated together. It was a tradition that he started when she was a 2-year-old. Many times the dolls were just collectables until she grew older and he got her dolls that could function.

Her dad stood in the doorframe of her room watching his daughter play like he knew it was the last time for a while. Seeing how happy the dolls made her each year was something that brightened up his day knowing that he could make his little girl happy. The father and daughter bond was the strongest bond that people could ever imagine.

"Hey pea, how about we go and watch a movie until bed?" Her dad asks, breaking away from playing with her dolls as she turns and looks up at him with the love that could be seen by anyone.

"Oh okay" she answers knowing that it is nowhere near the time of her usual bedtime but without questioning she obeys getting her Barbie pyjamas before running through the house to get to the living room as her dad smiles down at her like his prized possession as he gathered her in his arms before asking what movie she wanted on. Little did her father know that she's already seen the seat free at the other end of the couch meaning her mother wasn't going to join them like she normally would.
Matilda knew her family was crumbling around her as she woke up to arguments or stuff being broken on the floor and shouting but mostly from her mum. She was shouting about the close relationship they have with each other making her feel like Matilda doesn't love her. But while Matilda knows her family is crumbling around her she stays oblivious to her parents who claim to think they can fix a relationship that is broken.

"What movie do you want to watch pea?" Her father questions as he wraps his arms around her wanting to feel the safety he can give her.

The movie she's always watched was tangled as it soothed her child's mind knowing that her dream was to find herself a man who loved her like her mother loved her father. A charming prince sweeps her off of her feet and saves her from danger like Flynn saves Rapunzel from her evil kidnapper.

As her dad wrapped his arms around his nine-year-old daughter, she could tell that her family was falling. She asked the only question that was on her mind as he looked through the lists of movies that he knew she liked. "Dad, where's mum?" Matilda looks up to see his face drop already knowing that something was wrong.
