The day went by and Yandi had fallen asleep... again.
She woke up to the sound of soft music playing, like Erykah Badu or something. The room was dimly lit. The sound of the shower running could be heard in the background, and her guess was Mari was taking a shower. This man takes way too many baths, Yandi thought.
The sun was still in the sky despite the contrast of the room, which shocked Yandi because with her nap, it should've been nighttime. She reached for Mari's phone since it was the closest and checked the time, but something else caught her attention.
There was a message on his lock screen and the contact was saved as 'Big L' , the message reading 'Listen, when you're done being the asshole on vacation, consider helping Amir and I out with the babysitting :P'.
She sat up and put the phone away, confused as to whether she read the message right. But, she ultimately decided to push her thoughts to the side and get up from her real long nap.
"Mari?" She knocked on the bathroom door.
"Yeah?" He answered, turning the faucet off. She could hear a bit of shuffling before the door opened.
"Wassup, baby girl?"The words were music to her ears. That and the sight of him post showering, his short curls matted to his forehead, the way his lashes just stood out and his facial features screaming at her, luring her in!"You bathing one too many times is whassup," she rolled her eyes, trying not to admire too much.
"Girl, bye!" He chuckled, " I was at the gym while your ass was asleep," he said matter-of- factly.
"There's an event I want us to go to though if you're game? Sarkodie is performing.""You're lying. How did I not know about this event?" She crossed her arms.
"I say just get dressed and we go, miss time management. We got about an hour to prepare. If you're early we can take pictures of your fine ass with the golden hour," he smirked.
"Oh I'll be ready," she grinned, and he smiled down at her before giving her a quick peck on the lips."I'll meet you back here in twenty," she said, grabbing her duffel bag and heading out.
After a good moisturising, a bit of shaving and slipping a pair of pants on, Omari walked over to his phone for any messages from Malik. Instead he scowled at his screen, noticing the message from his sister Laurie. He then raised the phone to his ear, a surprise call would do the trick.
"Bruh, I am not babysitting your kids," he chuckled.
"Be for real. I dare you to say that again, I will drag you across my kitchen floor when you visit," Laurie threatened through the phone.
"I would like to see you try," Omari teased, looking for clothes to put on for the event."Are you going to tell me where you are yet?" She changed topic.
"Hell naw," Omari answered in all nonchalance.Omari enjoyed being under the radar. Growing up, he saw how his parents were very involved in Laurie's life to the point where she really didn't have much privacy for most of her marriage.
He didn't want that for himself even though he was their only son. He was the only one who'd carry the Saidi name in the family.
His father especially took pride in having a son, they did have a relationship. Omari just set boundaries earlier in life by being reserved on most days, social on others, that kind of thing. His father didn't know everything Omari did in his day or his life, he knew just enough to know his son was out there in the world."So you mean to tell me... nobody but you and 'your boys', know where you are?!" Laurie raised her voice.
"Nobody but me, knows where I am," he corrected her.
"You're a piece of work. I'm- just... let me know when you're in the area. I really wish I could ask Amir's family but there's just alot on their side and I trust you better with my kids. Don't make me look desperate here,"
"Girl, you sound beyond desperate okay," he chuckled yet again.
