Yandi sat in her office perusing a document, sipping on a cup of matcha latte. She set the cup down to highlight a piece of text when her telephone rang, stopping her momentarily.
"Yandi speaking," she answered.
"Mr Minchin would like to see you in his office," Lindi, her PA, replied.
Yandi raised a brow, but decided to head there either way. She reached the top floor and stepped out the elevator, her heels clicking on the wood floors.
She greeted the secretary on that floor who led her in the office.
"There she is," Mr Minchin beamed, making the man opposite his large table turn his head.
To say Yandi was livid was an understatement , it was not in her character to lose her temper, but in that moment she was really close to it.
"Ms Tembo, I'm sure you know the face of Ash Maso, Mr Maso, and he's the junior," Mr Minchin piped.
"We are very acquainted," he smiled and turned to Yandi, extending a hand to her.
She took a deep breath and turned to Mr Minchin.
"We are acquainted Mr Minchin, and it poses as a conflict of interest in that regard," she said with a simple smile.
"Oh, I'm sure you being my legal advisor won't hurt a fly," Justin scoffed.
"I just told Mr Maso you're one of our best attorneys for his company," Mr Minchin commented.
"I appreciate you putting in a good word for me, but I cannot represent or advise him, Mr Minchin," Yandi stated.
"Yandi-" Justin coaxed, placing his hand on her arm.
"It is Ms Tembo to you, Mr Maso and do not touch me," she seethed. "Mr Minchin, a word... privately?" she said.
"Mr Maso, if you could excuse us for a moment," Mr Minchin finally said.
Once he left, Yandi turned sharply to Mr Minchin.
"Mr Minchin, with all due respect I expected you to know better about my marital status and for once consult me beforehand about representing Mr Maso," she expressed.
"Marital status? Wait he's the one you were engaged to? Goodness, Mr Maso has a shitload of sons and I did not think it would be him!" he laughed.
"That is no excuse. I request you bring a different attorney on board with him and his company. I want no business with that man," she snapped, pointing to the door.
"Alright, alright. I do apologize for not doing my due diligence here. I will do the needful," he nodded in understanding.
"Thank you," and with that she walked out his office.
"You're not over us, are you?" Justin said loudly as he approached Yandi, but she continued walking to the elevator.
"Yandi!" he ran to her and pulled her by her arm when she turned and gave him a hot slap to the face, the impact echoing through the hallway.
"You have no right to show up in any space I occupy and disturb my peace. I had let what we had go but you decide to constantly raise hell for me," she hissed. "Now, before I take further action, leave me the hell alone!"
She turned to leave and entered the elevator. As soon as the doors closed she began to whimper, wiping the tears from her eyes before they could fall. She pulled her phone out and clicked on Omari's contact and bringing the phone to her ear. She sniffed and pulled the phone away and watched it ring until it went unanswered. The lump in her throat grew and she fanned herself, checking her reflection in the elevator mirrors when it made a bell sound, indicating that the doors were opening.
