Chapter 20: Confronting a Heartless King

(Third Person POV)

As the team approached the castle, they find at least a few Koopa Guards blocking the door. Peach hopes that Lena and her siblings hid somewhere safe in her room. Tails flies up to the roof as Peach, Tom, Toad, Knuckles, and Sonic fight off the Koopas. The fox sees that Mario's guest room window as already been broken. Not only that, but bits of the wall have been broken off. Tails thinks that Bowser might have infiltrated the castle already. Worried, he finds a window to the throne room. Seeing that there's no other way to unlock it, Tails has no choice but to shatter it. Hopefully Peach can forgive him later. He pulls out his laser guns.

"Please be safe..."

With one quick slam to the glass, the window shattered into pieces, enters the throne room and Tails points his laser guns.

"MARIO!!"

Suddenly, Tails gasps in fright as to what's he's seeing. He's not just scared of Mario being squeezed, but more of the creature that's holding the plumber.

"Are you one of those Mobian's she talked about?"

Even though the beast wasn't making eye contact with the fox, it knew that the heroes managed to get out of the distractions. Tails did his best to not shake, yet his pupils slowly shrank. It's voice was low like thunder and it's yellow scales shook Tails to his core.

"I'm so glad you showed up. So, how many of Lena's siblings did you take in? I know you at least took in one of them now that I found that mute apricot brat. But I must know, is there another male human with you? Or is he on his way?"

The monster's tail slowly swayed back and forth in an eerie way, like a cat ready to pounce.

"Honestly, I can tell you're not a human. A young fox such as yourself seems far too puny. So unless you want a pointless death, give me the Luma's. Understood?"

Mario let's out a strangled cry and Tails slightly begins to shake. This is a Koopa... but no ordinary one he saw earlier... this has to be... him.

"Incase your wondering, I'm not planning to hurt the Luma's..." it said, turning its head. "... or do anything harmful no less."

The monster glares at Tails. It's red eyes stared at the fox with a look of amusement and malice. Not only is this Koopa pleased to see a new challenger, but angry that the fox interrupted his moment to finish off the human.

"No... there's no way... that's King Bowser Koopa!!"

Tails scowls at Bowser and he aimed his laser guns at the oversized brute, holding his fire.

"Let that poor man go, now!" Tails yelled.

Bowser takes a moment to notice the fox's two tails. It was almost as if he'd seen another Mobian with the same type of anomaly. But he quickly comes back to reality and tossed Mario to the side. The plumber tumbled down the stairs and landed on his back. He sees the baby Luma crawling over to him. Bowser's eyes glow with hate as tiny sparks of red electricity spark from his red mane.

"Just who do you think you're talking to?!" He yelled.

Tails' eyebrows narrow and Bowser jumps with all his might, attempting to slash the fox in half. The fox immediately dodged the attack, but Bowser slammed his fists to the ground, causing the two heroes to fall to their knees. Mario picks up the baby Luma, who was crying, and holds it in his arms, running towards the door as Tails tries to shake the pain off his arm. The old dog bite injury was acting up.
