Chapter 39: At Court and Leaving New York

(Third Person POV)

It's been a week since the showdown in Brooklyn. Sonic was just glad to finally be back home in the normal world, and he and Mario made the front page too. He takes a look at last Saturday's newspaper and re-reads it.

"Local plumbing duo, The Super Mario Bros., Team Sonic, a woman named Peach, a Giant Ape with a tie, and an individual disguised as a mushroom saved Brooklyn from an invasion of armed turtles. A large stone fortress emerged from the ground early Saturday morning, disrupting breakfast time across the city. A large red-haired and lovesick turtle named Browser, their leader, was defeated by The Super Mario Bros. with a bit of help from Team Sonic and their families. PAGE 8"

He giggled at how the news misspelled Bowser's name. But he was happy that his friend got a chance to shine. After all, he had to learn to share the spotlight. Not only that, but Peach was happy to know that Sonic loves her as a sister. She even fixed his Nezuko plush he had. Now the plush looked like it had a scar on the right side of the toy's forehead, similar to Tanjiro's, but in the form of leaves on a branch. He hugs his little Nezuko doll out of relief, and thinks that maybe he should get Peach a Tamayo doll in return. After all, he kinda made her binge watch all of season one in a week and taught her how to play Demon Slayer: Hinokami Chronicles so fast.

But since the incident, Spike's crew has been doubling their shifts to fix the stress and Rosalina finally fixed the Warp Pipe. As for the Wisps and Luma's? Ethan decided to live with Sonic since he enjoyed his company. Lubba the Luma came back as Mayhem became the new leader of the Guardians of the Stars. Crysta retired and now works in the palace gardens of the Mushroom Kingdom. As for Lena, she used her wish for a better purpose: she gave up her immortality to become a human. Lena the Lumalee, who was once a cute shiny star, is now a beautiful young woman with long blue hair. The Baby Luma now named Lumen decided he should be part of Guardians of the Stars, and now the other Lumas call him Young Master Luma. As for Rosalina? She decided to leave since her home was up in the sky. So after repairing Rainbow Road, The Mushroom Kingdom, and her Comet Observatory, she said her farewells and disappeared into the starry skies above.

For the Penguins? Rosalina also repaired their kingdom too and they went back to living normal lives. Along with the Kong's and the Toads, they all managed to go back home. Although, since Bowser poached a Yoshi egg, it hatched and it was a pain for Mario to get ahold of. But they sent the Yoshi back home and for the abandoned Mobian Kingdom? The Kongs rebuilt it as a sanctuary for the Chao colonies scattered across the world, and created a memorial wall for the fallen Mobians of the Mobian Kingdom. They made a funeral for Queen Aleena too, and Sonic was just happy to put her name to rest. He kept her sword just incase Eggman would come back someday and kept Bowser's tooth as a souvenir to remind him of their battle.

But as for Longclaw's feather he kept, he finally realized that she protected him from his mother's problems. But he's thankful that she did, and he's thankful... that Longclaw raised him along with Aleena when she did. But he can't keep thinking about it forever; he needed to move on. But he'll always love and remember the moments they shared. He opens the window, feels the breeze, and looks at the feather one last time. He recalled all the joyful memories they had together, and shedded a little tear. He lets the feather go as it dances away in the wind.

As Sonic looks at the time, he remembers that today was the Koopa King's trial, and everyone is going to be there as witnesses about the incident last week. So without a second thought, Sonic got out of bed, brushed his teeth, combed his quills, and started to eat some breakfast. Knuckles, Tails, Maddie, and Tom also eat breakfast together and Tom looks at the news. He chuckles, causing Sonic to get interested. He looks at the paper to see Bowser in the latest news article. His mugshot clearly captures his guilt that the Koopa King felt about his situation.
