Chapter 27: Fighting the Mad Doctor

(Third Person POV)

As dawn approaches, the light of the rising sun peeks through the tent and causes a certain plumber to yawn and rub his eyes. He hears Toad cooking from outside the tents and hears Tom calling his name. With a groan, Mario rolled under his sleeping bag against the warm morning air. He didn't want to get up yet, even though he was on a mission to save Luigi, Maddie, and Sonic. With a defeated sigh, he crawled out, with a yawn.

He looked around the tent groggily, scanning over the room seeing Peach still asleep holding Sonic's Nezuko Kamado plush from Demon Slayer and sees the baby Luma tossing and turning in his cap. He rubs his eyes and lets out a tired moan.

"I don't wanna get up... but I have to..." he groaned.

Still in his overalls, he sees Lena and Crysta getting out of his shirt that they were using as a makeshift sleeping bag and he puts his shirt back on. Sniffing his armpit, he thinks he needs a bath. Hearing the baby moan, he gently and lightly taps its cheek, making the baby turn on its side, eyes still closes.

"C'mon sleepy head, it's my turn to use the hat."

The baby tosses and turns but Mario gently rubs its eyes, causing it to wake up. Reaching its "arms" out for the plumber, the baby cooed, signaling to Mario to lift it up. Once Mario cradles the baby star in his arms and takes out the cloth's, he puts his cap on, placing the baby Luma in his front pocket.

"Bad dream?" Mario asked.

The baby yawns in response. Mario slips his shoes on and steps out of the tent, not before looking back to see Peach still sleeping. He didn't want to disturb her, so he lets her sleep in. He exits the tent to see Toad and Tom cooking bacon and eggs for breakfast as Lena, Crysta, Tails, and Knuckles join them.

"Morning, sleepy head." Tom jokes.

"Hey. So are we gonna head out after we're done eating?" Mario asked.

"Yeah. Right now it's just eggs and Bacon for breakfast. I couldn't bring pancakes." Said Toad.

"At least it'll get some strength in our bodies." Knuckles said.

"Agreed." Said Tails.

Crysta and Lena chew on their slices of bacon and Mario hears a yawn. He turns around to see Peach awake.

"Morning, Peach."

"Hey, Mario. Get a good nights sleep?" She asked, joining him at the campfire for breakfast.

"Yeah. But I mostly thought about Lu... well mainly I was worried." Mario said.

Lena the Lumalee looks up as Toad gives him a plate of eggs and bacon.

"Oh um... was it something about him that made you worry?" Lena asked.

Mario hesitated for a mere second... then responded.

"I'm... worried that he's in danger."

"How can you tell?" Crysta asked.

"It's... I just can. Since I was a kid, I've had this feeling where I feel like my brother is not alright when I'm not with him. He can be very timid... most of the time."
