Chapter 25: Storytelling in the Fire Flowers

(Third Person POV)

After a long day of walking, the team take a well deserved break under a tree in the Fire Flower field. Lena and Crysta help out Toad with the fire logs while Tom and Knuckles set up the tents. The baby Luma stares up at the stars in pure wonder. It reminded him of home. The Apricot Luma then noticed Mario looking down at his hat, a dejected look on his face. Peach seemed to notice too as she and Tails had twigs in hand.

"Thinking about your brother?" She asked as she placed extra stick and twigs on the grass.

"We've never been apart this long..." Mario sighed, feeling hopeless.

The baby Luma frowned and came up next to him, hugging his leg.

"Don't worry Mario, we're gonna save him, Maddie, and Sonic." Peach added.

Mario smiled at the encouragement. Tom overheard this and cracked a tiny smile, giving him hope. Peach then touched one of the fire flowers, her pink dress turning into a white one. She played with the flame before shooting it at the stick TeePee, as it caught on fire. The baby claps it's hands. Tails gives Peach a hug as Tom, Knuckles, and Toad join.

"I hope Sonic is alright. Heck I just hope we can save him in time." Tails said.

Peach pats Tails' head and the fox kid smiles and sits down by the fire.

"You don't seem like you're from here..." Mario said as he placed his hat back on, standing up, causing the baby Luma to sit on his hat.

"Yeah. Peach, do you know where you came from?" Tom asked.

Peach smiled at the banter as she looked down.

"I don't know where I'm from."

"Really?" Mario asked, surprised.

Peach nodded as she looked out into the distance and back at the group, making eye contact.

"Yep... my earliest memory is arriving." Peach said.

She reflects on when she first arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom and got adopted by the Toads.

"I was so lucky they found me. The took me in, raised me like one of their own, and when I was ready, they made me their princess. But after I became princess, Bowser attacked and kidnapped me. He wanted the Power Ups that were scattered throughout the kingdom, but he took interest in me... still unsure why. But luckily, Donkey Kong saved me." Peach explained.

She remembers fishing with Toads, completing the training course as a teen, being crowned princess, kidnapped by Bowser, and then saved by DK.

"Wow. From an orphan to a ruler." Knuckles said.

"Yeah and... I recall one time a Mobian and her baby were in need of shelter after being chased by Chain Chomps. I remember the next morning when she was cooking breakfast, I held the baby for her. And after she finished eating and fed the baby, they took off. And I didn't see them again." Peach added.

"Oh, I'm sorry." Tails said.

"It's okay." She said.

"Well you did say that you remember a small portion of what happened before you arrived." Tom said.

"Maybe you're from our world." Mario pipped.
