In Ayumi Yoshina's apartment, Ayumi makes a phone call to someone named Megumi.
Ayumi: Hi, Megumi! I'm gonna be busy this weekend, so can you feed the rabbits at school for me on Saturday?
Megumi: Ooh... I know what you're doing!
Ayumi: Huh?
Megumi: You're gonna be with Conan-kun, right? I bet you're going camping with him and his friends!
Ayumi: Er... Yeah. Is that okay?
Megumi: Sure! I'll look after the rabbits for you, but when you get back, tell me everything! Every time you guys go on a trip together, something weird happens!
Ayumi: I promise I'll tell you all about it! Thanks, Megumi!
Ayumi hangs up her phone.
Ayumi: Yay! Camping! Camping! Camping on Sunday... huh?
Ayumi was holding a notebook containing names, addresses, telephone numbers, and notes. She observed that Haibara's name didn't have "chan" attached to it.
Ayumi thought: I wonder why nobody ever calls Ai-chan! Even the teachers call her Haibara-san. I know she's new here, and she seems awfully grown up... But if we're really friends, we ought to talk like friends!
Later, in the soft glow of daylight, Conan and the other kids were waiting for Haibara, Agasa, and Kuuga at Agasa's house.
Genta: Hey, doc, what's causing the delay...?
Mitsuhiko: We're already past our scheduled departure time!
Agasa: Sorry, sorry, the preparations took me a long time.
Haibara: Wasn't it the cleaning that took you so long, not the preparations? I leave you for a second, and there's a pile of garbage.
Ayumi: Oh, good morning... A... Ai...
Haibara: Hm?
Ayumi: I think you didn't get enough sleep last night. Haibara-san
Haibara: Yeah, I'm a night person.
Ayumi thought: Oh well...
Genta: But how long do we have to wait for Kuuga here?
Mitsuhiko: You're right. He's not as close to us as a friend.
Kuuga: Hello, everyone.
Genta and Mitsuhiko: *scream and are surprised by Kuuga's arrival.*
Everyone turns to face him and sees that Kuuga is wearing a black coat and scarf, carrying his sheathed cane sword bag and luggage.
Ayumi: Ah! Kuuga-kun.
Haibara: You're late. And why are you wearing the same clothes and the same colour?
Kuuga: I arrived here perfectly, and this is the only clothing I have in mind.
Haibara and Kuuga exchanged annoyed glances until Agasa intervened.
Agasa: Well, well, let me help with your luggage.
Kuuga: Sure, Thank you.
Kuuga handed his luggage to Agasa, and they all got into the car to go to the camp. Conan, Mitsuhiko, Ayumi, Haibara, and Kuuga sat in the back, while Genta sat in the front. Kuuga kept his sword with him and placed it by the side door, then started reading a book. Kuuga noticed that Haibara kept yawning.
Kuuga: Huh?
Haibara: What?
Kuuga: You seem to keep yawning.
