Kuuga found himself in a predicament involving a man named Genda Takanaori, who had been arrested for arson. Kuuga wasn't entirely satisfied with the situation.
The following morning, everyone gathered in Kogoro's office.
Kogoro: What's this? You're planning to return to Haido to investigate the fire scene? Right now?
Heiji: You got it! There's something I need to explore. I'll be taking the kid with me.
Kazuha: Can't we forget about this fire case?
Ran: Weren't we supposed to go to the tropical land today?
Heiji: Tropical land? This case is more my cup of tea!
Kogoro: What case? They've already apprehended the arsonist!
Kazuha: Exactly!
Ran: He even came to our place and turned himself in!
Heiji: My hunch is that the little guy might be manipulated under mind control.
Kogoro: I don't follow.
Heiji: Think about it! Who visited Morozumi-san shortly before her house went up in flames? Her husband, Akira Morozumi, is a psychiatrist. Her boyfriend, Misao Soga, is a Feng Shui Master. And her sister, Keiko Gondo, is a fortune teller! All three of them possess the abilities to influence people's minds, and all three seem to have motives for starting the fire. Doesn't that strike you as peculiar?
Kogoro: But we don't know if any of them were acquainted with Genda, and Genda had a motive too! Plus, they all have alibis.
Heiji: That's why I want to dig deeper. There could be something suspicious at the end of this trail.
Kuuga: Conan.
Conan: What is it?
Kuuga: Can I come with you?
Conan: Huh?
Kogoro, Kazuha, and Ran: Huh?
Heiji: Why do you want to join us? You're not connected to this case.
Kazuha: Kuuga-chan, could it be you're worried about Genda-san?
Heiji and Conan: Huh?
Ran: The truth is, when Kuuga-kun was in bed with us, he couldn't sleep well. He seemed kind of...
Kazuha: Stressed...
Ran: Yeah.
Kuuga: ...
Heiji and Conan exchanged glances.
Conan: Okay.
Heiji was surprised that Conan had agreed. Heiji took Conan aside for a quick whisper.
Heiji: Are you sure about this?
Conan: If we had refused, who knows what might have happened to him.
Heiji: I get it, but does he know your true identity?
Conan: No, I hope not.
Kuuga, Ran, and Kazuha teamed up with Conan, Kogoro, and Heiji to investigate the incident at Akira Morozumi's residence. To their astonishment, the house had been completely consumed by fire.
Ran: Someone has passed away in this location.
Kazuha: Why would anyone choose to visit here?
Heiji: I told you to stay home!
Kazuha: No way! I want to solve this case quickly so we can all head to the tropical paradise.
Ran: Anyway, we're curious too!
