In the Detective Agency, Ran and Kogoro were having dinner and discussing a letter of invitation.
Kogoro: A Halloween party now? Do they even know what month it is? Halloween is on October 31st!
Ran: That's what it seems like! A Halloween party out of season!
Kogoro: And? What does it say on the invitation?
Ran: The letter reads, "To the incompetent Detective Kogoro Mouri...
Kogoro: *annoyed* Hmm?
Ran: ...on the night of the next full moon, I invite you to a cruise party, a night gathering painted in blood. Whether you attend or not, the doomed lambs will lament their fate, and the sinners will revel in the lambs' final moments of life."
Kogoro: *annoyed* Har har har. So, it's a challenge to the great detective Kogoro Mouri! But who the heck would send such a creepy letter?
Ran: Maybe it's a foreigner. The name is written in Western characters. V-e-r-m-o-u-t-h... how do you pronounce this? Vermoose?
Ran read the invitation letter aloud to her father. The letter was sealed with a wax stamp and signed by someone named Vermouth.
Kogoro: Hmph... whoever that is, I'll teach them a lesson and prove I'm the great detective Kogoro Mouri. Hey! Kid! Cook me a good dish! Huh?
Kogoro called out to Kuuga, but there was no response.
Kogoro: Kid?
Ran: Kuuga-kun went to his home.
Kogoro: Huh? Tonight? Alone?
Ran: Yeah, I had told Kuuga's owner that he arrived home, so I said Kuuga-kun would go back to his home tomorrow, but he insisted on going home alone.
Kogoro: Hmm... what's that kid thinking, always doing things alone and doing whatever he wants?
Ran: Can't help it? Besides, Kuuga-kun doesn't feel at home here.
Kogoro: Really? The way I see him, he's been alright to stay here, but I don't see him feeling not okay.
Ran: I thought so too. I hope he's alright.
Ran remembered that she went to Jodie's apartment and found a secret cabinet with a mirror inside a photo.
Kogoro: What do you say?
Ran: Huh? N-no, nothing.
Kogoro: Anyway, this dish is delicious. Did you make this?
Ran: No, Kuuga-kun made this after he went back.
Kogoro: I see. Well, if I go there, I can tell him that I want to eat free food. Haha...
Ran, annoyed by Kogoro's words, takes away his dish.
Ran: This dish doesn't suit you better.
Kogoro: Hey, Ran! What are you going to do with that?
Ran: I planned to give it away to Mom.
Kogoro: Idiot! Don't give it away! I still want to eat that!
Later that night, Kuuga returned to Café Ciel Bleu alone and planned to clean up his home. Kuuga noticed dust on the table and floor, so he prepared himself and cleaned it up by himself until he finished. Then Kuuga received a call from Haibara on his phone.
Haibara: Are you saying that you came home, cleaned up, and waited for the owner to come back?
Kuuga: Yeah.
