Kogoro Mouri had received an invitation from Vermouth, and he accepted the challenge to not hurt his pride. Kogoro joined the party on the ghost ship with Sonoko. However, upon arriving at the party, Kogoro was surprised to find Captain Gold had been shot by an arrow in the chest.

Later on, Kogoro inspects Captain Gold's body on the ground, who fell himself after being shot by an arrow.

Kogoro: The arrow from the crossbow pierced straight through his heart, and they even added a Devil card for effect.

Medusa: It seems they chose the devil to guide him to the other world.

Kogoro: Hmph... I'm sure he would've at least made it to the river of Sanzu without a guide. This would have been an instant death.
