After Kuuga wrapped up another case, he headed back home. However, he received an invitation from Ran to join Heiji and Kazuha at her house. Kuuga brought only his sheathed cane sword, tucked safely in a bag, and was dressed in a coat with a scarf.During dinner, Heiji began recounting the story of the lawyer's case, describing how he had confronted the elderly woman and persuaded her to give up. Ran and Kazuha were deeply impressed by Heiji's actions.
Heiji: That's when I gave it to the old lady! I said, "Give up! In this gamble, you rolled snake eyes!" Just like that!
Ran: Wow!
Kazuha: You really saved our hides, Mouri-san! You decoded Heiji's secret message and came to get us!
Conan and Heiji appear shocked.
Kogoro: Huh?
Kazuha: You're the one who beat up the bad guys and called the cops, right?
Heiji: Hey, why are we rehashing the whole lousy affair? Let's have a drink!
Heiji interrupts Kogoro, expressing his disappointment that Kogoro didn't get involved in the lawyer case. Conan glares at Heiji, and Kuuga continues eating.
Ran: I'm shocked that the lawyer, who was known for her humanitarian work, turned out to be a kidnapper. She targeted Hattori-kun and Kazuha to cover up her own corrupt practices!
Kogoro: It's always the people who put on the nicest public face that stab you in the back.
Kazuha: Yeah, that day was really bad news. She was planning to kill us!
Ran: No way!
Kazuha: It's just a shame that the woman didn't have an ugly face to match her evil deeds.
Ran: Why do you say that?
Kazuha: Remember what I told you about those two thugs? They had severe injuries, and their appearance was horrifyingly brutal. It appeared that their bones were broken as well, and they were taken to the hospital.
Ran: Are you serious?
Kazuha: Absolutely! I hope someone will teach that lady a lesson!
Heiji thought: Heh, Heh... She's lucky she didn't meet...
Conan thought: If she had...
Heiji and Conan exchanged glances, suspecting that Kuuga might have been involved with the two thugs. Kuuga pretended to be oblivious and continued eating his food.
Heiji and Conan thought: He certainly showed no mercy to her.
Kuuga: Hmm?
Heiji: Well, she even tried to burn down her own house with me and Kusukawa-san inside. She was planning to frame it as a stalker's revenge for losing a case when reporting it to the police.
Kogoro: Sounds like you had a close call. She could've pinned the crime on that arsonist who's been terrorizing the city.
Heiji: Arsonist?
Ran: There have been suspicious house fires this year, and the police suspect a serial arsonist!
Heiji: Why? Does the guy use the same method each time?
Kogoro: No, the method seems to be random. But the culprit always leaves a certain object at the scene of the crime a little plaintive horse the colour of dark red blood!!
Kazuha: A red horse?
Heiji: I see... In Japan, a red horse used to be police jargon for an arsonist.
Kazuha: Why is that?
