Chapter 45

"NO, EVION."

I stared at her expression and carefully scanned her. She's still a beauty even with those tear-stained cheeks, and eyes that seems to be begging me to hold her. Her words are the opposite of how she actually feels, and I understand. I will not invalidate her because she is valid. Her pain is valid.

"Polaris, umalis ka na. There's no point on talking to me, I already made up my mind." Marahas na tinuro niya ang main door at nauubusan ng pasensyang tinignan ako, pero wala akong balak na sundin siya.

Eve needs to calm down first. She's clouded with her thoughts and her pain overwhelms her. She've fought her battles enough, and she did splendid.

"No." Matigas na sagot ko at humakbang papalapit sa kan'ya kaya muli siyang napaatras na parang natatakot na mahawakan ko siya.

Touching her is like breaking her, but I'll hold her. Even if I have to build those broken pieces she have, I will.

"Ano ba? Didn't you hear me? I said, I do not want you!" May halong iritang sambit niya pero umiling lang ulit ako at nagmatigas.

Magkasalubong na ang mga kilay niya at nalilito kung bakit ako patuloy na lumalapit sa kan'ya. She's even fidgeting and it feels like, she didn't really want to say those words. She's like a broken glass that if I dare to touch, it will break even more, and I will bleed.

"Polaris, can't you understand my words? Ayaw ko sa'yo. Ayoko na. Umalis ka na." Madiin at puno ng pait na pagpapaalis niya sa akin. Parang gusto na niyang magwala dahil sa nararamdaman.

I didn't say anything, but I kept on trying to close the distance between us. Pero, sa bawat paghakbang ko ay siya namang paglayo niya sa akin. I want to hold her, like she did to me even if I was never aware about it.

"Polaris, stop being stubborn! Ano ba? Ano bang hindi mo maintindihan sa mga sinabi ko? You're not listening to me!" She combed her hair in so much frustration but I remained doing what I want.

"I can hear and understand you, Evion." Humugot ako ng malalim na hininga at sandaling huminto sa paglapit sa kan'ya. "Malinaw sa akin ang mga sinabi mo. Narinig kita. Narinig kong ayaw mo sa akin. Naiintindihan kong pagod ka na." Mahinahong sagot ko. She looks so miserable that my heart clenched in pain as well.

"Naintindihan mo pala, bakit hindi ka pa umalis? Do I have to beg? What... what should I do? Please... leave me." Nanghihinang pakiusap niya sa akin at kahit na gustuhin ko man siyang sundin ay alam kong pagsisisihan ko ang bagay na 'yon.

"I heard and understand you. And, I heard that you do love me, Evion, so I will stay."

Hindi makapaniwalang umiling siya. She doesn't look irritated, rather, devasted. "So what if I do? It's not enough." She emphasized the last sentence that made me sigh.

"It is more than enough." I calmed myself because if I won't, I'll definitely burst into tears.

"Love alone isn't enough to fight this cruel battle where I am the evil! Can't you see how tired I am, how broken I am? It's just so unfair because it feels like I am fighting for nothing. And, I am tired of doing so." She bursted out her unexpressed thoughts with a teary-eyed expression.

"You don't have to fight anymore, Eve." I started to tremble as well when I realized, and when I saw that the fire in her soul is slowly fading, leaving only a faint light... "You can now stop fighting, because I will. I will fight for you, I will fight for us." I gestured my hand and held my chest part. "You are enough. Your love is beyond enough..."
