Chapter 8

Hezekiah stared at me intently as I stared at the floor. I could feel his eyes on me.
"What's your name?" Hezekiah asked.
"Cassie" I said quietly.
"No. You're full name." He said.
"Cassiopeia Maeve Solace" I said staring at the floor.
"You prefer Cassie?" He asked and I nodded.
"Well Cassie. My name is Hezekiah Knox Carrera. I'm the alpha of the Obsidian Moon Pack. I prefer Zeke. Meadow has requested you be brought into our pack. When my scout Stetson found you he said you fought hard against multiple men and almost made it. You said your last name is Solace any relation to Huxley or Maliyah?" He asked. For the first time I looked him in the eyes.
"Yes that's my parents." I said.
"I'm sorry for your loss Cassie. Your parents were amazing people, my father and I tried to get them to join our pack many times but Demari would've never allowed it." He said, looking down.
"Funny cause when they died Demari replaced them the same day, didn't show up to the funeral in fact nobody from the pack did and if it weren't for Zeta Kartier and his wife Zari I would've ended up dead or in a rogue pack." I said sarcastically.
"Why do you say that?" He asked curiously.
"I was dating his son, Roland, our parents had arranged us to be married but when my parents died they all said I was cursed and cast me out. Demari said if I couldn't find someone to take me in then I was banned from the pack. Zeta Kartier and his wife Zari took me in. They were amazing to me. I was happy until we found out Roland was my mate." I said trailing off as I remembered that day. My body began to tremble as I got angry.

"Hey it's cool we don't have to go there yet but I will need to know what happened if you wish to stay." He said. I shrugged.
"You do not wish to stay?" He asked.
"It's not that. It's that everywhere I go it's only ever temporary. I'd rather be alone than be in another temporary home." I said quietly.
"Are you hungry?" He asked me. I nodded.
"Follow me" he said. I got up and followed, we walked down the hall to a room inside the room was a small kitchenette.
"Do you know how to cook?" He asked. I nodded. "Help yourself." He said.
"Are you hungry?" I asked. I couldn't eat in front of him if he was hungry that's rude. He nodded.
"I can eat always" he said with a chuckle. I started to grab items and began cooking. I was making lemon and garlic tilapia with sautéed asparagus and homemade 3 cheese mashed potatoes. Zeke watched as I cooked.
"So you can cook well?" He asked.
"Learned some living with Kartier and Zari and been cooking my own meals for 2 months. I taught myself mostly." I said quietly.
"Are you ready to tell me what happened with Roland?" He asked watching me.
"About 2 months ago I went to school found out he was my mate. He followed me and he himself started things as in intimate things. Then went to leave and I asked him what it meant and he said nothing that I was weak and he rejected me. That's when I met Meadow she saved my life. Well because of what happened my best friend and adopted brother Jax started a fight and won against Roland making him look weak. He blamed me so they banned me and put a bounty on my head. When I showed up here I had run into Jax and his twin sister Jay at the time I thought we were friends. But I was in the midst of transforming when they slapped chains on me and told me they were with Roland and he wanted me to transform so he could kill me while I was vulnerable. When I shifted though Jax began acting strange and ran to catch Roland and Jay set me free. I ran for your pack to find Meadow. I was just outside when Roland and his pack caught me. You know the rest" I said as I pulled the food off the stove. Zeke didn't say anything he just stared angrily at the counter for awhile. I placed plate of food in front of him and he finally looked at me.
"I'm sorry you have been through that. If you want to join our pack we'd be lucky to have you. It will not be temporary." He said while picking up his fork. As he took a bite his eyes went wide and he looked to me.
"What?" I said quietly.
"This is amazing Cassie. Truly you have a talent." He said quietly back to me as he stared at me. I smiled for the first time since I arrived.

"You have a really pretty smile you should use it more often" he said.
"You're the first person to ever tell me that." I said quietly, he glanced at me looking somewhat surprised.
"Would you like to stay in the pack Cassie?" He asked. I nodded and he smiled, it was the best smile I had seen.
"You as well have a really nice smile and should use it more, you'd be less intimidating." I said with a soft laugh causing him to let out a laugh.
"It's my job to appear intimidating. People like to push buttons and test waters granted I always win but I've learned don't give people a feeling that they can win and scare them into knowing they can't and you have less bullshit to deal with." He said.
"Makes sense, I guess. What about when you find your mate?" I asked.
"I have. She just doesn't know and I'm going to let her figure it out on her own. I don't want to pressure her into thinking she has to stay with me because I'm her mate." He said quietly. I just looked at him for a moment.
"That's actually very sweet of you. Most wouldn't do that." I said. I was a little sad because I don't know why but I felt a pull towards him. I mean he was very attractive it made me nervous to talk to him. Suddenly the kitchen door opened and a woman about my age walked in.
"Zeke I've looked for you everywhere" she said before she saw me.
"Who are you?" She asked giving me a disgusted look.
"Leilany this is Cassie, she's joining our pack." Zeke said.
"Okay but why are you alone with her eating dinner?" She asked almost sounding jealous.
"That's really none of your business. I don't have time to deal with anymore territorial women." I said suddenly with a scoff. Zeke glanced to me and smiled but Leilany glared.
"You are going to let her talk to me like that? We're supposed to get married per our parents agreement." She scoffed.
"Not anymore Leilany. I'm sorry but I found my mate yesterday. I wish you the best with finding your mate but the wedding is off" Zeke said.
"Who? This dumb rogue? Please." Leilany said laughing. Suddenly Zeke was in front of her.
"That is enough this instant. This is your one warning talk to Cassie like that again or try to harm her mentally, physically or emotionally in anyway and you and your whole family will become rogues." Zeke growled. Leilany whimpered as she nodded in agreement and walked away. I stared shocked, why would he stand up for me?
