We composed ourselves after the news broke us. We plastered a smile as we entered her room.
Bakas sa mukha ni Artemis ang kasiyahan nang makita niya kaming lahat na isa-isang pumasok sa kaniyang kwarto. She gave me the warmest smile she could ever give when our eyes met.
"You're here, Yan..." usal niya sa nanghihinang boses. Her beautiful heterochromia eyes gleamed.
I smiled as I try to not tear up.
"Of course..." I beamed. "I'm here..."
She nodded gently as she looked at Taliya's direction. Her smile widened.
"Long time no see, Taliya!" she sounds enthusiastic.
Naramdaman ko ang pagbugso ng damdamin ni Taliya habang hawak ko ang kamay niya. Alam kong kahit anong oras ay maiiyak nalang siya rito. She felt guiltier than ever now that Artemis is welcoming her like this.
Hinigpitan ko ang paghawak sa kaniyang kamay.
She cleared her throat as she gulped her tears down. She beamed a smile.
"Long time no see! Tagal kitang hindi nakita!" she radiated the same energy.
Artemis gleefully laughed.
Isa-isa ring nakipag-usap sa kaniya ang mga pinsan at kapatid. Habang pinapanood namin silang mag-usap ay nagtama ang mga mata namin ni Sheenly.
She nodded at me. And I have finally realized the reason behind of the watch tower design.
It was Artemisia, all along.
I feel like my heart was ripped into pieces. All along it was in front of me. The chance to know the truth was there all along. I always failed to take it.
"Tapos na yung watch tower?" Art asked, a bit surprised.
We nodded at her. Lumawak ang ngiti niya.
"Tara! Gusto ko makita! 'Tsaka hindi pa ako nakakapunta sa Zenithal ulit, e..." pag-aya niya at tumingin sa kaniyang Ate Athena. "Punta tayo, please?"
"Ngayon na?" her sister asked.
She nodded enthusiastically. "Ngayon na..."
Sandali kaming nagkatitigang lahat at sabay-sabay na tumango. Pinakita at pinaramdam namin sa kaniya na excited kaming dalhin siya sa Zenithal kung saan nakatayo ang watch tower park na gusto niyang makita.
"She participated on designing that whole park. She's an architect after all," Sheenly told us when we were on our way to Zenithal.
Kasabay namin siya sa sasakyan. Nasa front seat naman si Taliya habang nasa backseat sina Sheenly at ang lalakeng nurse kanina, si Ralston.
He was the nurse that accompanied Artemis in the hospital for three years. They became friends since then, I guess.
"Pero hindi na niya ako nasamahang tapusin 'yon dahil bigla nalang siyang nawalan ng malay. Kaya tinapos ko 'yon para paggising niya, nakatayo na yung design niya." she smiled.
"Thank you, Yannick..." aniya. Nagtama ang mata namin sa rear mirror. "Salamat dahil sa kabila ng lahat ng nangyaring abirya, pinaglaban mong matapos ang project na 'to..."
Gusto kong magsalita. May mga gusto akong sabihin.
Pero tinikom ko ang bibig at tahimik na tumango nalang.
She should've told me about her and her illness. She should've told me the design was for her all this time. She should've told me everything.
Dahil ang ideya na hindi ko napaglabang tapusin ang proyektong 'yon ay pumapatay sa akin. What if hindi ako nakisimpatya sa likod ng desinyo niya? What if I did not listen to the rumors my cousin told me before?
