Earlier that morning, Visenya had peered out the open rear window of the carriage and watched as Kings Landing became smaller and smaller.
The caravan of carriages and knights on horseback was an impressive sight, but Visenya fought the urge to jump out of the moving carriage and run to the Dragonpit to be with her dragons and travel with them. Instead, she sighed and turned to face forward. She was alone in the royal carriage, maids are in one, the kitchen help had another and the last two carriages contained tents, tables, weaponry, clothes, bags, and food.
She looked out the latticed side window of the carriage and found Ser Torrance, Grayson, and Crist right beside the carriage on horseback. They would ride nowhere else in the caravan. The thought of hours each day in a carriage, for as many weeks, was also enough to drive Visenya to want to jump out of the carriage. Instead, she leaned back, rested her head on the pillow, and tried sleeping.
She had just about fallen asleep a few hours later when the caravan came to a stop to make camp for the evening. She stepped down from the carriage onto a grassy field. She stretched her back, looking around to see the Knights of the City Watch and Kingsguards establishing camp, setting up tents and all that came along with it.
The process mystified her. Almost everyone on the tour had a job to perform in order for the tour to go smoothly. The thought made Visenya feel useless. She was used to servants, the order of things that came with being a royal, but it was a long time ago, she is used to getting things done by herself now.
To quell the feeling of being useless, Visenya started to walk around the plot of land the caravan chose for this evening. The Stormlands are a country of heavily forested lands, high mountains near the Dornish Marchers region in the south, and a warm but wet climate due to all of the storms that batter it from the Narrow Sea to the east. People don't usually like the Stormlands, but Visenya does. Being in the forest and hearing a river stream is one of the peaceful moments she enjoys.
The caravan stopped near a river, so Visenya chose to walk along the shore of the river. She was appreciating the natural beauty of the river and the forest she sees way ahead of them. She knelt down to pick a rock, and the river felt cold and clear.
Before she sits down and enjoys the beautiful weather, she hear faint footsteps coming from behind her. She turned to find James with a look of concern he hid poorly.
"Princess," he said, "camp hasn't been established yet. It may be best to stay where either a Goldcloack or Kingsguardman see you". Visenya ran her finger along the water, playfully and replied, "Are there any creatures in the river that might snatch me away?". James chuckled lightly, "Keeping you safe is more complicated when most of the guards are busy establishing camp... fewer eyes to monitor our surroundings." He explained. Visenya regarded him with kind eyes, she resisted the urge to dismiss his concern, and nodded. "My apologies, Ser Crist" she said. She sighed, and gently tossed the stone back into the river. When she turned back to James, he saw a look he didn't know how to describe. "I could send guards to watch over you here, if you'd agree, princess. I should see our defences" James offered. "Thank you, Ser James. But I don't want to be a burden" She mumbled as they both walked toward camp. "It is not... and if they were not so many eyes, I would totally join you and see who could throw that stone harder" He whispered, and the princess chuckled. "God sometimes I miss our sillyness back in the farm, you know?" she spoke. "At least here we don't have drolling dead freaks trying to eat our brains" James chuckled. "On that note... I miss our people. I hope they're doing well" Visenya stated, and sighed. "We'll see them again... I am sure of it. Now, Princess" James bowed when we reached camp and went to help with the guards.
