I started waking up before Alexander did. I checked the clock and it was almost 11 am. I slowly pulled myself away from his hug, not wanting to wake him up since I know he doesn't sleep like he should.
I quietly took my black high-waisted cargo jeans and my black long-sleeve bodysuit and walked upstairs. I took a quick shower and changed my clothes. I went to the main house and entered hesitantly after I took a heavy breath. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked at me surprised. Yes, I talked to some of them after that night but I never stepped in the main house for three weeks. I saw my aunties and Khwali and most of my cousins smiled at me encouraging me to come forward. "Kami do you believe that this... all that happened is because of some governmental shit?" Saloom asked. "Who told you that? Khali Mohammad?" I spoke knowing that Khali Mohammad is obsessed with conspiracy theories and everyone chuckled knowing that it is him.
Just before we were served breakfast I told them the big news. "Why? The alliance is good" Uncle Khalid questioned. "No, it wasn't. It was beneficial when we started to clear out the walkers but now we don't need them. It will take them no time to ask for ammo, or food, or the men would get more frustrated without no women around... and who has a ton of single women? Us, they wouldn't even care if they are single or not. Men broke peace for far too stupider reasons. I had to get out of it for a good reason as soon as possible without them thinking that we were just turning our backs on them. They jumped Alexander and Matthew and I had to make a stand and pretend that this was the deal breaker so they don't see us as traitors" I explained and they nodded in understanding.
As we sat down to eat breakfast I had to tell them about me and Alex, I don't wanna hide it anymore. "I have something else... I wish that none of you will get mad or anything. Just remember I am independent from you guys and I stayed because I love you all, most of you sorry" I announced. Every eyes turned to me waiting, thankfully, Haya isn't here so she doesn't scream with excitement. Most of the girls were doing laundry today. "Me and Alexander are a couple" I spat out looking at the ground. Waiting for at least a plate to be thrown at me, but nothing came, not even a sound. I looked up at them and most of them nodded and turned to their food. "That's it? Nobody's mad or want to scream and yell at me or throw something?" I asked confused. "What do you want us to say or react? Are we happy about it? No of course not but we'll try to be happy for you" Khali Mansour spoke and everyone agreed with him. "Thank you... I wasn't expected that at all" I smiled and got up. "You're not eating?" my grandma asked. "I'm not hungry nana. I'm going to help the girls... and boys? The regular shifts are coming back, no more being lazy" I told them and left toward the back of the main house.
I saw some of the girls clean and some put the clothes on racks to dry. "The prodigal daughter returns" Reem announced as they all turned to me. I smiled and chuckled. "We made up. Everything is cool" I spoke and they smiled back. "I broke the alliance .. and I'm with Alex now, like fully in" I whispered the last part to Reem, Wadha, Haya, and Sarah; daughter of uncle Abdullah, the only cousin I like from my father side. Ex adopted father-I reminded myself. They all squealed in excitement and out other cousins just stared at us unimpressed. "Do you need any help?" I asked everyone. "Nah thank you, you just go and be a hero somewhere" Halah, my cousin, said sarcastically as a way to put me down and I just smiled at her "I will hun, you just keep not helping darling" I replied going to my bunker to check on Alexander.
I grabbed a bowl of water and a clean cloth and the antibiotics from my bathroom and went downstairs. I saw him yawning cuddled in the blanket. He turned to my direction and smiled. "Hi" I spoke softly as I approached him. "Hey" his husky voice roared through the room. I placed the kit on the nightstand and sat on the bed beside him. His hands searched for mine under the blankets and finally he found it and our fingers intertwined. I tilted my head grinning at him. "Where'd you go?" he asked. "I dropped the bomb at them" I spoke. He started massaging my hands and kissing my knuckles. "You told them about the alliance or us?" he questioned. "Well then two bombs" I chuckled and so did he. "How did they react?" he frowned. "They actually took it well. No plates were thrown at me at any point" I joked and he chuckled shaking his head.
