It's been three hours since the Maester checked on my husband, and I didn't move a muscle. I stayed where I was since the Maester left, at the end of the bed, kneeling, intertwining my hands together and leaning my forehead against them as I prayed. I didn't know who to pray to as I didn't believe in any specific gods so I prayed to them all. The Old Gods of the Forest, The Seven, The Drowned God, and the Storm God, hoping one of them could hear my prayers.
I wiped a tear that fell without warning but I heard a groan, I raised my head and saw Cregan trying to move on the bed, eyes on me. "I didn't think you are the type that prays" he joked but then his breath hitched as he winced in pain. "Cregan!" I breathed as I scrambled to his side, slowing down as I reached him and gently held his hand. "I'm okay" His breathing was still shallow, but I could tell he was trying to talk to me, to tell that he is fine. I bent down and whispered in his ear, "I'm sorry Cregan, I didn't mean to leave your side. Just please don't scare me like that again, okay?" without warning I weeped like a child lost her toy. His response was a barely-there nod with a soft smile. His fingers pulled on the fabric of my attire and I bent further to listen to him. "Not your fault. I'm sorry that I scared you" he took a breath after each word and it broke my heart.
I knew he was okay now but at the time of his attack and when I saw his numb body, I imagined the worst. Losing my last ever family. I cried, and he pulled me closer and whispered in my ear, "I'm here, I'm here," over and over again. I clung to him and cried, relieved that he was still with me. I knew that no matter what, he would never leave me.
After a while of staying in his arms, I told him that he should rest and I went outside of the tower. I headed toward the common hall where all the injured men were being treated. I helped the Maesters and the other men to treat and heal the wounded soldiers, it took us almost until the next morning when we finished with the last fighter. Thankfully, there were only five deaths on our ranks but hundreds on the foe's ranks. But we took the largest number of injuries, they can heal though.
"Do you want ale, your Grace" Thoren Mallister words snapped me away from my thoughts as I laid on one of the food halls long benches. "Thank you, Mallister, but I have a long way ahead of me on dragonback" I smiled at him and he noded. "It was truly an honor to fight alongside you. I've never seen a finer swordmen uhh women" he palmed his forehead, chuckling. "Thank you, sweet boy. And I never met someone your age being this brave and courageous. One day you'll be Lord Commander, I know it" I winked at him and he smiled, leaving me to rest some more before I bring food to my husband.
As soon as the dawn of the next day break, I put Cregan on a portable bed that I secured with ropes around Cannibal and I did not wait any longer to take him to the Capital. The two day journey was insufferable as I was only with my own ocean of thoughts, hearing my lover groan and hiss in pain every now and then.
We finally reached Kings Landing and I landed straight in front of the gates of the Red Keep. Queensguards and City Watch came to help me lower their king consort down, but I refused to let anyone touch him but me, fearing they would mistakenly hurt him. "Your Grace? What happened?" Thaddeus Rowan, my Lord Hand, questioned as he appeared with all of my Small Council members. "The threat of the Wildlings is at an end, but Cregan took a big hit" I stated as I put his arms around my shoulder, struggling to lift him, and then came running Benjen. "Is he okay?" he asked about his long friend, worried. "Yeah his Grace is fine, he is just bruised and sore and in need for rest" I told the council and nodded at Benjen that he is alright. "Take him to his chambers and fetch the Maester" Lord Rowan ordered the guards and they took him away from us and carried him inside.
