it was very late at night, when jooyeon's mother opened the door of her son's bedroom, to peek inside and make sure, her son was sleeping peacefully. being met with a messy duvet and no jooyeon in bed made her furrow her eyebrows, as a slight wave of panic ran in her body.
❝jooyeon?❞ she called out, looking around the room carefully one more time to make sure her son wasn't there and leaving the door open, walked in the hallway with fast steps.
she looked in the kitchen briefly and made her way to the living room. the moment she walked in, she was met with a wave of cold wind hitting her face. for some reason the balcony door was open.
she did remember closing the door before going to her room. clicking her tongue, she approached the balcony and pushing the curtains aside, she stepped on the balcony.
only to be met with a sight of her son gripping tightly on the railing, he himself was so small, barely reaching the top of the railing. as he was looking up at the dark, clear night starry sky.
❝you scared me.❞ with those words jooyeon let out a small yelp as he was carried up and just a second later he was in his mother's arms. ❝you know, you shouldn't sneak out of your room at night. especially on the balcony.❞ his mother nagged playfully, booping jooyeon's nose.
looking down, ❝i'm sorry.❞ jooyeon gripped on his mother's shirt tightly, in fear of falling from her arms, with his other hand, he pointed at the starry sky. ❝i was looking at the stars.❞ he confessed, looking back at the stars with so much admiration.
his mother ran fingers through her son's soft locks, chuckling softly. as she too, looked at the starry sky. which was really beautiful that time. with all the stars up there so visible, you could sit down, count each and every one of them not even getting tired of it.
❝that one!❞ jooyeon tugged on his mother's sleeve, in order to get her attention, exclaiming in a cheerful voice. ❝look how bright it's shining. brighter than the others.❞ he grinned, pointing at a certain star.
his mother furrowed her eyebrows slightly, not being able to see it. at least, the star which jooyeon was pointing at, was the same as every other. she trailed her eyes to the other side, noticing the one that stood out the most to her.
❝look, baby, that one.❞ she pointed at the other star, which was really shining much brighter than the others. she tapped her son's shoulder as she called out to get his attention and show him the brightest star on the sky for that day.
jooyeon tilted his head slightly to the side, staring at it for a good minute, shaking his head as a no after. ❝it's no big different from others. the one i showed you is much brighter.❞ he then went back to looking at the brightest star for him, which he found so beautiful.
chuckling, the woman tucked jooyeon's hair behind his ear, ❝whatever you say, baby.❞ she uttered softly, slowly walking back inside the house, not listening to her son's whines, of wanting to spend more time out there, on the balcony and just watch stars.
walking inside jooyeon's bedroom, his mother gently lay him down on his bed, pulling the duvet over his small body. she smiled at him with so much adoration, placing a little peck on his forehead. wishing her son to have good sleep with sweet dreams.
