Mackenzie

"Eat," Darry demanded.

He set a plate of food in front of me with a tuna melt on it. "Thanks Darry," I smiled at him gratefully. "Don't look now kid, but Johnny and Dally are about to walk in," He said, patting my
shoulder.

It'd been about two weeks since Dallas yelled at me near the alleyway.

We haven't spoken since, we've been near each other due to the fact we hang around the same people, but not a word has been exchanged.

I deserved to be yelled at by him. I broke up with him while saying I wanted to be with him. That had to have pissed him off, so I don't despise him for it. I just can't help but wonder whether or not our whole relationship was a lie. I just couldn't ask. I had to be okay, especially with school starting.

"Hey Mackenzie," Johnny said, sitting down next to me at the table. "Hey Johnnycakes, you eaten?" I asked.

"Nah," He said. I cut my sandwich in half and handed him the bigger half. "Thank you," He said. I winked at him and took a bite. Sodapop walked in and spotted Dally lingering around us. "Hey Dal," Soda said. "Hey man," Dally said, patting him on the back.

"Alright little lady, you ready?" Soda asked, leaning over me. "Yessir," I said. He held out a hand for me and I grabbed it. "Where you goin?" Johnny asked. "I'm going with him to work, I gotta interview with his boss today," I said. "Good luck," He smiled, mouth full of food. I smiled back and thanked him.

"Why you applyin' there?" Dally asked. I blinked twice, making sure he was actually speaking to
me.

The first words he's said to me in two weeks. Two weeks. I cleared my throat and took a breath. "I need to start saving up to get my own place, it just seemed like I'd have a shot with Soda and Steve already working there," I said. "Right," He said.

He stared at me for a second while placing a cigarette in between his lips. He didn't break eye contact.

He looked cold and heartless. The way he's looked everyday since we got in that fight. I sighed before
looking away from his gaze. I could feel his eyes still on me as I turned away from him. They were burning holes through my sundress. "Let's go Kenz," Soda said. I followed him out the door and into the car. "That made me want to scream," I said. "Me too," He said.

"He hasn't spoken to me and two weeks," I said. "Maybe he's finally cooled down," He said. "I wanna punch him," I said. I sighed and played with my rings. "Then kiss it better,"

"I knew that was coming," He said. "You still care about him and that's okay," He said, taking his hat off and putting it on my head. "What isn't okay, is wallowing in self pity, which is why when you go in there and have that interview, you're gonna crush it, and work with your favorite person in the world," He said, smiling brightly.

"Liv?!" I asked. He stared me down. "I'm kiddinggg," I said. "I'm really excited, I hope I get the job," I said. "You got this Kenz," He said.

"I got this," I repeated.

Dallas

"What the hell are you doing Dallas?" Darry asked me. "What're you talking about?" I asked. "You're being a dickhead," He said. "I am not," I said. "Just admit it, you miss her," He replied. "I don't miss her," I said.

"God you are one stubborn kid," He said. "You know that day you yelled at her, she came back here and cried for hours,"

"S-she did?" I asked. "Yep, sure did, and not only that, she defended you, said you had every right to be mad at her and try to hurt her like that," He said. "And that kid loves you a lot, she'd never tell ya now because of what you said but she does, and she is goin' through hell right now, getting kicked out of her house, having a horrible birthday, then she did what she thought best for you and you scream at her and tell her you basically used her," He said.

"I can see it in your eyes, the way you look at her when she's not looking," Johnny said. "You love her Dal,"

I didn't know what to say to them. Of course I loved her. But she left me. She left me. "What do you think I should do then?" I asked. "Win her back," He said. "Show her how much you care, I ain't ever seen you like this Dallas,"

"I haven't either," Darry said. "She's worth it," Johnny said.

"I know," I said. "But how am I supposed to convince her to love me?" I asked. "You don't have to," Johnny said. "Just convince her to trust you," Darry said. "Okay," I said. "Maybe,"

I put my cigarette out and left their house. I'd had enough of a lecture for one day.
