Chapter 16 Hunter's POV
I held Lauren's hand as the athletic trainer popped her arm back in place. I didn't even see Lauren flinch. She has to be the strongest person I know, the man wrapped her arm and told her to go the hospital after to get a cast. She got up as the track director ran up to her,"we saw what USC did." Lauren looked at me as I looked at her,"some of the other track directors think you fell and others think USC did it on purpose and we honestly don't know who to settle the conflict. University of Maine and Harvard University got 3rd and 4th so they don't really matter." "So are you saying-" Lauren said before getting interrupted,"we want you and USC to race again. Just you too." She paused and had a look of terror in her eyes. She looked down at her arm then at the man again,"do you not see my arm? How am I suppose to compete?" "Well, if you don't want too, then we'll keep the original scores: USC first place and you last place." "Could you give us a sec?" I asked pulling Lauren aside,"Lauren, you better race again." "Hunter if you understood what's happening right now and in my position-" "I do understand what's happening, though I'm not in your position. You're going to let a cheater who's jealous of you win? I don't care if you have won these big races a bunch of times! You win, that's what you're good at." She looked down at the ground,"it's way different this time." She said in fear. I looked around as USC looked at me with anger. Looks like she heard the news about racing again. I lifted Lauren's head to where her eyes contacted with mine again,"before every show, you have no idea how nervous I get and yet I have performed over a thousand times. It's ok to be scared for something that could cost something important." I looked at her arm then at her again,"you race and do not have any injuries stop you." "God Hunter how are you so good at convincing?" She asked laughing. I smiled,"because I only convince those who I know can do it." She threw her hands down to her side,"I feel this is all about me. Me and my running. Your music? Why do I feel like I'm taking that away from you?" "Lauren you're not!" "I made my decision-" "Lauren lets go." A track director said interrupting Lauren and grabbing her arm, walking her to the start of track.
