"Have you talked to Bonnie?" I ask Caroline as Elena, Caroline, and I walk by the buses towards the school.

"No, I'm mad at her. She needs to make the first move," Caroline answered in determination.

"Be the bigger person," Elena countered, and I nodded, agreeing.

"Ah, impossible in her presence," she stated, shaking her head.

"Why are you so pissed at her anyway?" I question out of curiosity.

"She's a thief, that's why. I gave her my necklace, and she refuses to give it back," she answered. "It's a matter of principle," she stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

"Alright. Well, we tried. We're officially out of it," Elena says as she shrugs.

"Good. Your turn. Where's Stefan? Have you talked to him?" She questions, looking over at Elena.

"He's avoiding me," Elena answered, disinterested in the conversation.

"Why?" Both Caroline and Evelyn ask.

"It's complicated," she says, sighing, then the bell rings. "We'll see you later," she tells Caroline before we start walking away. Elena and I walked into school and down the hall to get to our history class.

Elena looks at Stefan's desk and sees it is empty. She sighs and sits at her desk, and I take the seat behind her. The school bell rang again just as Bonnie rushed in hurriedly, going to her desk.

"Good morning, everyone." The new teacher greeted them as he came in after Bonnie. He put his stuff down at his desk and turned to the board. "Alrighty. Let's see," he says, picking up the chalk and starting to write.

I turn to look at Bonnie. 'Are you okay?' I mouth to her, and she shrugs her shoulders and looks away. I turned back to the front right as the new teacher finished writing his name on the board.

"Alaric Saltzman," he reads out loud for us, smiling. "It's a mouthful, I know. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Saltzman is of German origin. My family emigrated here in 1755 to Texas. I, however, was born and raised in Boston," Alaric stated.

"Now, the name Alaric belongs to a very dead great-grandfather I will never be able to thank enough," Alaric says. "Now, you'll probably want to pronounce it Ala-iric, but it's Al-Aric okay? So you can just call me Rick," he tells us, nodding. "I'm your new history teacher." He looks at all of us, smiling.

"And then I just ended up at the remains of the old Fell's church before I woke up back in the woods," Bonnie informed as she sat across from Elena and Evelyn.

"And you always see your ancestor, Emily?" Evelyn asks. Bonnie nods in response. "Huh," she says, thinking it over.

"Do you guys believe in ghosts?" Bonnie questions, looking between them. And Evelyn nods.

"Two weeks ago, I'd say no, but now–" Elena started but got cut off by Bonnie.

"I think I'm being haunted," she pointed out frantically.

"I don't get it. Why Emily?" Evelyn countered, shaking her head.

"Grams said she was a powerful witch back in the Civil War days, and this medallion was hers," Bonnie answered as she gestured down at the necklace around her neck. "A talisman," she added.

"And this all started when you got the necklace?" Elena asks, looking at the necklace carefully, and Bonnie nods.

"I think she's using it to communicate with me," she informed them.
