I lean against Stefan's chair while the store clerk pours us another round of champagne while we wait for Rebekah to show us the dress she's trying on.
"There has to be more to this dress," Rebekah insists.
"There isn't," Klaus sighs as she steps out in a sleek black dress.
"So, women in the 21st century dress like prostitutes, then?"
"Pretty much," I shrug, nodding in agreement.
"You know, I got dirty looks for wearing trousers," Rebekah says.
"You wore trousers so women today could wear nothing," Klaus tells her.
"And what is this music? It sounds like a cable car accident," Rebekah complains.
"It's dance music," Stefan replies.
"People actually dance to this?"
"Well, they try to," I say with a smirk causing her to smile.
"Are we done?" Klaus asks, his tone impatient.
"Why are you so grumpy?" Rebekah steps closer, a playful challenge in her eyes.
"Maybe he wanted to try on a dress too, Beckah?" I suggest earning a laugh from her and a glare from Klaus. "Don't worry, Klaus, we won't judge."
"I needed one thing from you so my witch can find out why my hybrids are dying. Just one thing," he says, ignoring me as he focuses on Rebekah. "Your necklace. And you lost it." I sip my champagne as they continue to bicker about the necklace.
"I didn't lose it; it's just been missing for 90 years," she retorts, then turns to Stefan and me. "So, what do you think?" She twirls dramatically.
"I like it," Stefan says, smiling, but Rebekah shoots him a blank look.
"What? I said I like it," he insists.
"I can always tell when you're lying, Stefan," she replies, striding back into the dressing room.
"Nice one. Good work," Klaus remarks dryly.
"You're the one who pulled the dagger out of her," Stefan shoots back.
"I heard that," Rebekah calls from inside.
"Don't listen to him, Beckah. I think you look hot," I chime in, shooting a glare at the guys before heading into the dressing room.
"Thanks, Eve," she smiles, clearly appreciative.
"I brought some clothes I think you'll like." I hand her a white tank top, a white and gold blouse for layering, and some shorts before stepping out. "Alright, I'm off to grab a snack," I say, walking past the boys toward the door.
"Hurry back," Klaus calls out.
"No thanks," I reply with a smile as I exit the store. I glance across the street and see Kathrine gesturing for me to follow.
"So, Eve, I see you've found a replacement for your blonde bestie back home," she smirks.
"Didn't realize we were on nickname terms in our... whatever-ship." We both frown, and I shake my head. "Anyway, what are you doing in Chicago? If Klaus finds out you're here, you're dead."
"Happy to know you care." She grins. "So tell me if I'm wrong... Rebekah's necklace that Klaus is looking for? That's the necklace that Stefan gave to Elena?" It sounds more like a statement than a question.
"Goodbye, Katherine." I try to walk away, but she steps in front of me, blocking my path.
"Wait. Wait. You're up to something; tell me."
