'So what you saying is that Mint is seriously ill and she is scheduled for heart transplant surgery when she will be 20 years old?' June asked with a heavy sigh.

After having a heartfelt conversation with Mint I came down to calm my heart a bit. Mint was called by her parents to meet some guests and Ton and June found me when I was sitting alone in the garden.

'This is really sad news. I mean she looks just fine.' Ton said looking sad.

'Guys please! Nothing will happen to her. From now on I am gonna take care of her. After two years she will go to the USA to have the surgery and will return completely cured. So don't make sad faces in front of her. We need to encourage her.' I was shocked but not that worried.

'It's not that simple Tay. What I heard from my cousin who is a cardiologist is that you have to be on their waiting list to receive the heart of a deceased person.
There is no guarantee that a heart will be available just for her.' Ton said thoughtfully.

'That's not true. Mint said because she is on their waiting list for a long time and the surgery is scheduled way ahead of time there will be no problem in that aspect.' I assured them confidently.

'That's a relief then. All you have to do is accompany her in this tough time.' June patted my back.

'I will be by her side no matter what.' I was determined.

'We are proud of you.' Ton and June hugged me tightly.

I was moved by their gesture. I hugged them both. Yes, my other friends are a bit of hooligans but these two are most reliable.

'By the way, when are you going to sing for her?' June asked after sometime.

'Oh right! I totally forgot!' I exclaimed. We quickly got up and turned when we saw Mint coming out from the hall.

'Tay? Mom and Dad want to see you.'  Her face was brimming with joy. She was very happy.

'Mint....I have a surprise for you.' I held her hand gently. My brave girl!

'Really? What?' She got excited.

'I wrote a song for you. Wanna hear?'

'Really? You wrote a song for her? Wow! Boy you are talented!' I didn't see when her parents came and stood behind us.

'Oh hello uncle...aunty.' we greeted them.

'Come come, let us hear the song.' Her mother dragged me towards the stage and asked the arrangers to give me any help needed.

I wasn't ready to sing in front of so many people! I was going to sing for her privately! But it's her mother's request so I am obliged to perform.

I was about to go up when a familiar voice surprised me heavily.

'Tay! What are you doing here!'

'Thada? What .....!' Then I saw Ma and Pa talking to Mint's parents and they are talking animatedly pointing at me.

'Why are you guys here!' I asked incredulously.

'Did you forget Pa asked you to attend a party?'

'Oh! So.....'

'Mr. Khemwaen is Pa's business related friend.'

'Mint's Dad?!'

'His daughter.......is the girl you like?'

'Yes!'

'Wow. Small world!' He scratched his chin.

'I am going to sing the song now.' I take the guitar and hold it tightly.
