Something felt off. For the past day, neither Tree nor Pen had been at school. It was even weirder since it was rare for them to be absent as individuals, nonetheless both of them at the same time. Tomorrow was graduation, and I worried about whether either of them would show up despite being absent from school. Blocky and friends have tried texting and calling both Pen and Tree, but neither of them has read their texts or answered their calls. That's what concerned me most. School wasn't the same without them. Sure, Pen was pretty dumb and Tree was sometimes a buzzkill, but both of them were friends and kept me company throughout the day. Today, I planned to hang out with Liy, as she told me she had a "surprise" for me. I walked into school this morning and saw Black Hole talking with Marker and Lightning.
"Black Hole, do you have any idea where Tree or Pen has been for the past day?" I asked.
Skeptical, Black Hole replied, "Not recently, why?"
"It's just that both of them have been absent and neither of them are answering their phones." I worriedly stated.
"Relax, I bet they're probably just sick and not on their phones."
"Knowing them, they'd be answering like crazy if they were sick. Tree has gotten sick before, so I know for a fact he would answer his phone the second I send a text."
"Okay, you have a point." Black Hole drooped his eyes, defeated.
Black Hole went on his phone and opened an app titled "Find Friends". It turns out, he had Pen and Tree's locations hooked up to their phones.
"Huh, weird. Their locations don't show up. This could only mean that both of their phones are dead."
Now I was extremely suspicious of the whole disappearance. How could both their phones be out at the same time they both are absent?
"Relax guys, they're both probably fine. I know both of them are lazy as hell." Lightning bluntly commented.
"Lightning, be nice." Black Hole side-eyed him, giving a father-like stare.
"Ugh. Whatever dude. They're probably fine."
The bell rang and I thanked Black Hole for his attempt at help. He said he would look into it a bit more and figure out what the problem was and if we should be worrying about it that much.
(Timeskip until Lunch)
I walked out of English class. The time seemed to go by slower than Pen's IQ during math, and that's saying something. Since Liy knew I had English right before lunch, she waited outside the door for me every day.
"Hi, Remote!" Liy greeted me with a warm smile.
"Hello Liy," I greeted back, tired from English class.
"Did you hear about what Blocky did?" Liy asked with a toothy smile.
"No, what did he do this time?"
"You're not gonna believe it, but Blocky pulled a prank on Four."
"Shut up, really?" I asked in shock, as Four was one of the harshest, meanest teachers in the school.
"Yeah! According to Eraser, he put oil on the floor in front of the room and Four fell on his face."
I started laughing and we joked about the entire situation while walking to the cafeteria. That's until Liy asked a question I knew would soon come out eventually.
"Hey Remote, do you know where Pen and Tree have been?" Liy solemnly asked, catching me off guard.
"That's what I've been thinking this entire day. I tried texting them and they haven't answered anything."
