Chapter 21 - Tree

I woke up the next morning extremely groggy. I still feel very bad for Pen. Why was he so harsh on himself over something he never did? Despite living with him for the past couple of years, I had never seen him that intense over something like that. There have been.

I went back to sleep since I was tired as hell from running so hard the day before. That's when I got a text message from Black Hole. Strange. He never texted me for the longest time.

Black Hole: Hey Tree! It's been a while since we've hung out. Are you free to come over to my place today?

Tree: Yeah! What time are you thinking?

Black Hole: Idk, when are you free?

Tree: Well, I'm free all day, but I can come over as early as 10 in the morning lol

Black Hole: Sure! I'm free by 10 too. See ya then!

Tree: You too!

I felt my cheeks heat up. "Is it getting hot in here?" I asked myself. I took off my long sleeve and put a T-shirt on instead. I chuckled to myself and changed into some more casual clothes like shorts and high-top Js. I walked out of my room and saw Pen gaming on our console.

"Pen, Black hole invited me over to his house. I'll be gone for a couple of hours."

"OK, Tree, stay safe. Have fun!" Pen softly smiled at me and waved me off.

I left the house and went over to Black Hole's house. Since we lived in the same neighborhood, I decided to save on gas money and bike to his house instead. Instead of pedaling the shorter route, which went through the house where I got attacked, I took the longer route around the entire block. However, this route was only a couple of minutes longer than the initial route I would've taken.

Black Hole's house was huge. I could see his room from the front of the house. His walls were decorated with stars and greenish-blue lights were emitting from the window. I walked up to the house and rang the doorbell. I patiently waited by the house for Black Hole to answer. Black Hole opened the door and greeted me with his usual smile.

"Hey, Tree! Come on in dude!" Black Hole smiled while we did our "secret handshake".

I smiled at Black Hole and walked in. His house looked the same as it was when he first invited me over to his house four years ago. Since he lived alone, he didn't bother making many modifications to the house.

"So, why did you text to hang out?" I nicely asked.

"Oh, I have a huge surprise for my first friend." Black Hole elbowed me with a huge smile.

I smiled at him and asked what it was.

"Put this blindfold on."

Black Hole led me outside. I could hear something, but I couldn't lay a finger on what the sound exactly was.

"Okay! Take off the blindfold!"

I opened my eyes to see a brand-new car. I used to always use Pen's car for transportation. I never thought I would ever need a car a day in my life. Besides the point, I was wide-eyed. Black Hole had bought me an electric car, which was on the pricier side of cars.

"Oh my gosh! Thank you so much! What's the occasion?" I asked, having many questions about this entire thing.

"You think I would forget your birthday?" Black Hole smiled.

"But my birthday is in three weeks!"

"Yeah, but during your birthday, I'm visiting family.

"Where?"
