"Pen, wake up ya fool. It's almost time for school," Tree nudged.
"Ughh- Is it already morning?" I groaned, not wanting to engage in a conversation upon being awakened.
"Yeah, it's morning." Tree nudged me again, this time harder.
"Okay okay, I'll get up, just wait for me by the front door. I'll be there."
I got up and quickly got ready for another day of school. Tired, I brushed my hair and brushed my teeth. I accidentally spilled some water on my clothes, but I couldn't care less, as my tanktop was waterproof and I would be wearing a hoodie over it anyways.
"Pen! Hurry your ass up! We'll be late!" Tree called from down the stairs.
"Be patient! I'm coming now!" I called back, slightly annoyed by Tree's haste to get out the door.
I dashed down the stairs, put on my shoes, and slipped my hoodie and backpack on. Tree ushered me out the door and we drove to school again. Tree drive today, driving more than ten miles over the speed limit consistently on the way there.
We arrived fifteen minutes early. I was angry at Tree for rushing me for no reason. He always did that no matter what day it was. I was happy the year was coming to a close so I wouldn't have to put up with it anymore.
I walked into the main building to see my friend Blocky shoving someone inside a locker. The boy was much smaller than Blocky. He had a brown button-down shirt and beige skinny jeans.
"Blocky! What are you doing?" I asked, wanting to know why he was shoving someone inside a locker.
"None of your business Pen, this guy's been getting on my nerves the whole year, and now's the perfect time to punish him," Blocky smirked at me, showing his sharp teeth.
Normally, I would brush this off and continue with my day, but I felt like it was wrong to do what Blocky was doing.
"Why are you shoving Woody inside a locker? He did nothing to you!" I spoke with a large frown.
"Shut the fuck up Pen. Let me do what I wanna do." Blocky talked back.
That was the last straw. I got the courage to push Blocky aside and open the locker. Woody lunged out and started sprinting out of the school, crying.
"What was that for?" Blocky asked, confused as to why I would stop him from picking on someone.
"It's the end of the year dumbass. Grow up, man." I swiftly commented.
"Whatever, way to kill the fun." Blocky groaned, walking away in the opposite direction.
I shrugged and continued walking to my locker. The day was just starting and I had already made Blocky pissed at me. I opened my locker and saw a pink note with my name on it resting on my stack of books. I picked it up, confused. I then started reading the note in the middle of the hallway.
Dear Anonymous,
Congratulations! You're qualified to attend graduation! You met the school's standards to graduate and will be attending the ceremony on Friday, June 14, at 5:00 pm. See you there!
-Goiky High School
Although the note was short, it conveyed the message well. I was super excited to go to the ceremony, as I had been waiting my entire life for this. My thoughts were interrupted when Tree started running up to me, calling my name from the end of the hallway. He showed me the envelope he got in his locker and was thrilled to hear that he was going to graduate. I high-fived him and we both went to our respective class. It was a good thing I had secretly studied before the final of this class. Once we walked in, the class looked like an office. There were dividers on every desk and the room looked more empty than usual, as our professor was in the middle of packing all his things before leaving school for summer. I sat at my desk and fidgeted with my hands for a bit until everyone was seated and ready to take the test. Our professor had already put the test on our desks.
