WARNING: SCENES OF DOMESTIC ABUSE
This chapter takes place on the same day as the previous chapter...
I woke up with sweat dripping down my forehead. Last night, I couldn't sleep at all. I kept having terrible nightmares about my father abusing me. The memories rushed back to my head like an everlasting cold. They always seemed to leave at times, but would always come back more grotesque than ever. I strapped on my favorite pair of sneakers and changed into my usual clothes. Not too long ago, I had volunteered to work a summer job despite already being extremely wealthy. I thought that it would help me build character and create more opportunities for me in life. I got ready and went downstairs to see my dad cooking in the kitchen.
"Need any help, Dad?" I asked.
"No sweetie, I'm fine. Thanks for offering." My dad smiled at me. "Are you in the mood for your old man's signature breakfast?"
I was already starving, so I couldn't turn down this offer. It turns out, my dad was making one of my favorites, fried rice and miso soup. I licked my lips as my dad served my food at the table.
"Dad, where's our butler?"
"Oh, he told us he was sick today and I told him he could stay home."
"That explains it."
My dad served my food and I proceeded to scarf the food down as fast as I could.
"Pillow, the food's not gonna run away!" My dad smiled.
"I can't be late for my job today." I continued to eat.
"But it starts in 2 and a half hours! You have time!" My dad continued giggling.
"Still. I take no risks."
"Whatever you say, Pillow."
I finished my food and went over to the front door. I put my coat on and told my dad I was leaving. He smiled and waved to me from the table. I waved back before leaving. Today, I decided to take my electric bike to the library, as it was only a couple blocks away. As to why I didn't walk? It was simply because I was too tired yesterday from playing Truth or Dare with my rambunctious friends. I rode my bike a little while longer until I saw Nickel and Taggy on the sidewalk. Despite me wearing a motorcycle helmet, they still recognized me. I figured it was because of the distinct white outfit I wore today.
"Hey Pillow! How are you?" Taggy smiled, waving with their foot since they didn't have any hands.
"I'm good, you?"
"Great! I got Nickel a job," Taggy smirked while lightly nudging Nickel.
"Damnnn, fresh bike!" Nickel pointed to my freshly painted motorbike.
"Thanks!" I smiled. "Hey, where are you two headed?"
"Oh, we're just headed to the library to return some of Taggy's overdue books." Nickel side-eyed Taggy.
(FYI, if you guys didn't know, Taggy is Price tag haha.)
Taggy stared at Nickel and nervously laughed.
"Would you guys like a ride? I'm going to the library too!" I smiled and kicked the side of my bike.
"Thanks, but how will we both get on the bike?" Nickel squinted his eyes.
"Easy! You and Taggy can fit on the seat and just ride with me." I pointed to the rather large seat.
"Yeah, but don't we need helmets?"
"It's okay. I'll drive carefully. I've been doing this since I was a teen, and I've never crashed once."
"If you say so."
