WARNING: SENSITIVE TOPICS

This chapter takes place right after Lightning gets home after witnessing Trophy...

My leg still hurt from Trophy crashing into me. I had never understood the reason why Trophy hated me so much. I stared down at my leg and examined the bandages on my leg. Although no serious injury occurred, I knew I would get scars from this.

I walked downstairs and was instantly startled by the sound of rocks hitting the side of my house. I rolled my eyes, thinking it was Trophy's daily dose of annoying me. How would he be back already? I walked over to the tapping sound but saw nothing. Instead, I heard a faint sound of laughter come from outside my house. I stared out the window to see if I could see anything, but I couldn't see anything, yet I could still hear the laughter.

What I did notice was a paper on the ground next to my side gate. I paced down the stairs and went to the kitchen. I was suspicious that this was a trap, so I grabbed a kitchen knife from the drawer and cautiously walked outside. I ran outside and brought the paper inside the house as fast as I could. The paper was... a note?

Behind you :)

I urgently spun around behind me, but I saw nothing. This was just a prank. I laughed to myself and threw the note in the garbage. I continued with my day and started scrolling on my phone for a couple of hours.

10:00 PM

I scrolled on my phone for some time until I saw a headline that caught my attention.

NEWS: 5 KILLED IN GOIKY MALL SHOOTING

I read the article, which was posted two days ago, and got sucked into the reading. I felt myself feel more and more scared as I kept reading, but something was preventing me from stopping. I got even more freaked out when I saw the shooter's mugshot. The shooter looked like the same one I had seen the night my sister had died. I read the name. It was the same guy, but this time, he had gotten caught.

The next paragraph read that the man had broken out of jail only a day after his sentencing.

My body shook with fear as I realized that the person who had killed my sister was still alive, and roaming the streets of Goiky. I put the phone down and tried to calm myself down.

That's when I heard a voice come from the top of my stairs. The sky was now dark, so I felt slightly more unsafe. Despite my feelings, I still went up the stairs to investigate. I reached the first step and saw a dollar bill. Distracted, I picked it up and continued walking up the stairs. As I continued walking up the stairs, I kept finding a dollar bill on each step. I reached the top of the stairs without realizing it.

On the last step, there was another note. I realized that it was the same note that I had thrown in the trash a couple of hours prior. I picked up the note. It read the same dreary message, but this time, it was written in blood and had an extra smiley face next to the one at the end.

I turned around and saw the shooter at the bottom of the steps. He stared me down with a devilish grin and put his hands behind his back. He made a gesture with one of his hands.

"Come here."

I ran up the stairs and cornered myself in my room. Was this real? There was no way this was real. How did the shooter know that my family had moved houses? How would he know that I was home alone? Why was he coming for me? Questions flooded my mind, but my adrenaline kicked in. I barricaded my bedroom door and took a breather. I heard the shooter walk up the stairs. His boots thumped to the ground. I could hear his heavy breathing and a slight sound of laughter from him.
