Lyka sat on her bed and looked at the photo on her phone, feeling a pang of sadness and disappointment.

It was Paula, her girlfriend of six months, holding hands with another girl.

They were smiling and laughing, unaware of the camera that captured their infidelity.

The photo was sent by Lyka's friend, who had seen them at a nearby mall.

Lyka took a deep breath and put her phone on the nightstand. She didn't want to react impulsively, to call Paula and accuse her of cheating.

She wanted to hear her side of the story, to understand what was going on.

Maybe there was an explanation, maybe it was a misunderstanding, maybe it was not what it seemed.

Lyka decided to wait until Paula came home, to talk to her face to face.

She hoped that Paula would be honest with her, that she would respect their relationship enough to tell her the truth.

She got an invite from Miguel at the mall so she shrugged her worry off and left the house.

Ava smiled as she blew out the candles on her chocolate cake.

She felt the warmth of her family and friends around her, singing "Happy Birthday" and clapping.

She is 14 years old today, and she felt like she had everything she ever wanted.

She opened her presents, one by one, and thanked everyone for their thoughtful gifts.

She got a new phone, a pair of earrings, a book, a stuffed animal, and a card from her boyfriend, Cody.

She blushed as she read his sweet message, telling her how much he loved her and how he couldn't wait to see her later.

She hugged her grandmother and thanked them for the wonderful party.

A few moments later, Cody and Ava are in one bedroom where he was waiting for her with a bouquet of roses.

He kissed her softly and handed her the flowers.

She smelled them and smiled. He took her hand and led her to a bench, where they sat and talked.

They laughed and shared their dreams, their fears, their hopes.

They looked into each other's eyes and felt a connection that was deeper than words.

They kissed again, and Ava felt a surge of happiness. She couldn't believe how lucky she was to have Cody in her life.

Ava turned the lights off, and who knows what else they have been doing.

---

Gertrude opened the door to Ava's room and was shocked to find her daughter naked with Cody in bed.

She harshly pulled the boy away and started beating him up. He quickly ran away, leaving Gertrude and Ava alone.

Gertrude's face was red with anger and she started to yell at Ava. "What were you thinking? How could you do this? JUST TURNED 14!!"

Ava was too scared to answer and started to cry. Gertrude's anger only increased and she started to beat Ava.

She hit her with her fists and slapped her face. Ava was too scared to fight back and just kept crying.

Gertrude'a face red with rage. She had heard the news that Ava had been sleeping with Cody, and she was not happy.

"Ava!" she yelled, her voice shaking with anger. "What have you done? How could you do this? You're only fourteen!"

Ava cowered in the corner, her eyes wide with fear. She had never seen her grandmother so angry before.

"Answer me!" Gertrude shouted. "What were you thinking?"

Ava shook her head, unable to speak.

Gertrude stepped closer, her fists clenched. "I'm going to teach you a lesson," she said, her voice low and menacing.

Before Ava could react, Gertrude had grabbed her by the arm and was dragging her across the room.

She threw Ava onto the bed and began to beat her, her fists raining down on Ava's body.

Aba screamed in pain, but Gertrude didn't stop. She kept hitting her, her face twisted in rage.

Finally, after what seemed like an eternity, Gertrude stopped. She stepped back, panting, her face still red with anger.

Tears streamed down her cheeks as she thought about her daughter, Martha.

She had been so proud of her, so sure that she was going to make something of herself. but then, fifteen years old and pregnant.

Gertrude had tried to raise Martha right, to teach her the values of hard work and responsibility.

But it seemed like all of her efforts had been for nothing. She had failed her daughter, and now she was paying the price.

Gertrude sobbed, her heart aching with guilt and regret.

She had done her best, but it hadn't been enough.

She had failed her daughter, and now she was going to have to live with the consequences.

But it wasn't just Martha that Gertrude was worried about. She was also worried about her granddaughter, Ava.

She was only twelve, but Gertrude was already worried that she might follow in Martha's footsteps.

She was scared that Ava will make the same mistakes that Martha had made, and that she would end up in the same situation.

Gertrude cried harder, her tears flowing freely.

She had done her best to raise her daughter and granddaughter right, but it seemed like it hadn't been enough.

She had failed them, and now she was going to have to live with the consequences.
