The reflection of the television's news cycle was mirrored in (Y/N)'s eyes which were stained with exhaustion. She shoved clusters of noodles into her mouth with a slight grimace. Despite the noodles coming from a packet, they were burned with black pigment, giving a sour aftertaste to the food. (Y/N) hadn't realised it was possible to burn packet ramen noodles, however here she was, eating burned noodles in front of the TV.

"I really am sorry, (Y/N)- It was a mistake!"

(Y/N) turned to her newfound companion with irritated eyes. "It's fine, Jin." She sighed, trying to mask her frustration. She inhaled deeply and dropped her gaze back to the meal. "I'll eat anything at this point." She confessed.

"That's fair- Don't let the poor girl starve!" Jin exclaimed. He took a seat on the floor next to (Y/N) and looked at the TV with her. He hugged his knees to his chest and let out a long exhale like a dog in front of the fire, though none of the comforts of a relaxed dog were present here.

(Y/N) turned to Jin with a solemn look. Her brows were furrowed and her lips were frowned. It was an expression she struggled to wipe from her face.

The feeling of complete hopelessness was hard to shake. What the world had become outside the little make-shift home was a world that neither (Y/N) nor Jin had grown up in, nor any other person in Japan for that matter. It was a society which had fallen into total disarray with little light paving the way for a better future. The people of Japan had lost their trust in their heroes following the events in the past week. Shigiraki had gotten away, along with his companions, and many heroes had lost faith in themselves and the society which they protected. It was a world (Y/N) wasn't sure she wanted to return to. Not after what had happened.

(Y/N) stared into Jin's eyes and couldn't suppress her dejected sigh. His eyes were shrouded with concern and fear, swirling with the conflict that plagued his mind. The look only confirmed her decisions. She was being reckless and selfish, but she was sure.

(Y/N) sprinted as quickly as legs would take her; her muscles aching and her feet pounding on the barren earth. She heaved rapidly as she ran. Her throat began to burn and her vision began to blur with the tears in her eyes. She watched with complete and utter desperation as the Nomu carried her objective away from her. They were faster than her. They were stronger than her. Even with her energy-enhancing quirk; even with the drugs that pumped through her veins, they were better than her. All she could do was run with all her might but with every second that passed, her hope diminished and she watched with an expression of raw terror as the Nomu got smaller and smaller and eventually disappeared over the horizon away from her.

(Y/N) slowed to a stop. She could feel her heart beating in her eardrums, her eye sockets, her throat; from the top of her head to the bottom of her feet, she could feel the violent drumming of her heart beating down on her. She spun in her spot, finding that all she could see was the empty earth that had been demolished by the power of Shigaraki. She didn't know where the villains had gone and she didn't know where the heroes were left. She gulped thickly despite it feeling like sandpaper. She dropped her face into her hands but quickly swiped them upwards and ran her fingers through her sweaty hair; the locks matted and dirty. She couldn't imagine what her appearance had morphed into but she guessed it wasn't pretty. She gulped and sniffled, slowly coming to her senses and calming down from the hyper-energetic person she had turned into mere moments before.
