|| Chapter Forty Five ||

"Run!" Chizome shouted as he watched the light drain from the sky. His eyes narrowed on the imaginary path ahead.

"Is it happening?!" Jin screeched, his hands flying to his head and his eyes wide and erratic. He felt his breathing beginning to fall short as a bout of anxiety washed over him.

"I think so!" Chizome huffed. He risked a look around him, trying to spot (Y/N) and/or All For One, but found them nowhere to be seen. "We need to hide!" He commanded.

Jin faltered slightly before jumping into the air. "We need to get underground with everyone else!"

Chizome glanced at Jin with an uncertain expression. "How?!"

Jin suddenly stopped, causing Chizome to stop at his side despite his heart pumping in his chest like a drum. Suddenly, Jin's body began to rip into two, then four, then eight, and so on. His bodies grew upon each other like a mutation until they were in the thousands.

"Dig!" Jin demanded with a sternness Chizome had not seen from him before. It was the raw primal need to survive.

Chizome hesitated as he watched the doubles bent to their knees and instantly dig into the soil, climbing atop each other to get better access to the ground and dig further into the earth's inner work. They worked together to lift boulders from the ground. Chizome was ready to jump into the man-made crater when he caught a flicker of light in the sky, a moment when the earth fell completely silent. His eyes widened with horror. "Down! Get down!" He threw himself into the crater and hoped with all his might that Jin had successfully joined him, or at least was one of the many doubles that threw themselves into the crater for the sake of artificial defense.

Chizome rattled in the crater as the world shook with the force of the bomb. The ground began to crack and break. The world felt hot and thick with unbearable heat. The doubles above him were obliterated into nothingness, burning the brown muck into dust that flew away in the hurricane-like winds that followed the explosion. Then came the sound; the sound of the sky cracking in half. Chizome slammed his hands over his ears as the bomb cracked and boomed and exploded in the air, sending sound waves of pure pain across Japan. All of sudden, Chizome felt the ground beneath him get thinner and thinner as the hole they had created began to close in on itself. He held his breath as dirt trickled onto his face, followed by a heap of soil that threatened to suffocate him. He felt movement around him but dared not to peek. Then, his back hit a cold surface, followed by the sound of grinding metal, followed by nothing at all holding him up. He slammed onto a hard flat floor, hitting his tailbone at an awful angle and causing a shot of pain to flare up his back. He let out a groan, blinking his eyes and desperately trying to figure out where he was.

"Chizome?" Came Jin's hushed voice. It was a quiet whisper but it was caked with terror and worry. "Chizome, get up." He panicked.

Chizome flipped onto his front and stared at the source of Jin's worry. In front of him were five UA students and a hero, staring at them with gawking surprise, confusion and, unfortunately for Jin and Chizome, malice. Chizome stood to his feet firmly and stared at them. He wondered if they recognised him without his gear. He deduced that there must be a familiarity but with the lack of attack it seemed none knew who the men were; certainly not Jin with his face exposed.
