"This is UA?" Midoriya croaked

"This is UA?" Midoriya croaked. His eyes were half-lidded with tire and he was slumped on Shoji's back after finally falling victim to exhaustion.

(Y/N) hung at the back of the group, also surprised by UA's sudden change, although she couldn't let it show. To everyone else, she'd seen this wall many times. The once high-school building with the dorms just off to the side had been transformed into a hyper-technological defense facility. Walls jutted over fifty feet high, looming over anyone trying to trespass. (Y/N) had been given a very descriptive idea of what UA had been transformed into from Himiko but had yet to see it with her own eyes. (Y/N) was glad she was able to see it before she initiated her plan.

"The UA barrier to be exact!" Sero chimed proudly. "And this big wall is just the tip of the security iceberg!"

"You're totally gonna geek out when you hear about the system!" Hagakure squealed. "They said we can even merge with Shiketsu!"

(Y/N) thought about that point for a while. Being in contact with Yoarashi may very well work in her favour.

"Keep the boy away! Keep the boy away!"

Chanting from behind the walls rose in a flurry of voices. Civilians were scared and they knew Midoriya being in UA would attract Shigaraki to them. (Y/N) wouldn't let that happen. But she understood their fear. She understood why they cried out in fright. That being said, it didn't mean it didn't bother her.

"Have a bit of humanity, will you?" She murmured under her breath.

"They're scared." A sudden voice responded to the comment she didn't think was heard. "But they don't realise what the heroes are going through. They just think about themselves."

(Y/N) turned to make eye contact with Jirou. She offered a small smile. "You're right." She breathed.

Jirou smiled back. "Are you okay?" She suddenly asked. Her question was only heard by (Y/N) with the incessant chanting overpowering their conversation. "Everyone's noticed how distanced you've been lately."

(Y/N) instructed Himiko to avoid all questioning. Any time a conversation turned to anything personal she had to evacuate immediately. (Y/N) knew this would cause some confusion, perhaps worry, but it was necessary. If anyone in her class found out it was Himiko Toga in their home and not their friend, havoc would ensue.

(Y/N) gave Jirou a comforting look. "I know, I'm sorry." She sighed. "I think everything has been a lot for me to handle at the moment."

Jirou nodded as she listened. "I get it. Everyone is taking it hard. But you know we're here for you, right?" She assured.

(Y/N) felt a pang of guilt hit her heart.

"Locking yourself in your room isn't doing yourself any favours. Noah is taking it the worst, you know. He's worried about you and you barely even talk to him."

(Y/N) tried not to think about Noah. How could she? She had no idea how to approach what she was doing with him. She trusted Noah with her entire life, but could she tell him this? She wasn't sure.

"I know." (Y/N) solemnly responded. "It will get better soon though. I'm sure of it."

Jirou gave her a puzzled look but didn't question it.

"Don't let that boy into UA shelter! You promised our safety! You promised!" The crowd screeched from behind the wall.

(Y/N)'s brows furrowed at the chants. She found them selfish.

The doors of the UA walls opened to allow Class 1A in. This only served to make the chants louder as they entered with Midoriya on their tail. (Y/N) hung back just as Midoriya did. She gazed at his guilt-ridden face with guilty eyes of her own. She slowly edged towards him.

Present Mic desperately tried to calm down the crowds but they were not allowing themselves to be shut down by him.

"You made us abandon our homes and you promised to keep us safe here!"

"Now you wanna let a time bomb loose!"

Midoriya began to slowly walk back, away from his class.

(Y/N)'s hand shot out instinctively and grabbed his arm, forcing him to halt. His eyes darted to her with surprise. She shook her head slowly.

He gave her a look that was pleading. Like he needed to go.

"Don't." (Y/N) whispered. "You can't."

"But-"

"No." (Y/N) shut down. Her grip on his arm tightened. "I meant what I said earlier, Midoriya." Her voice was hushed just like it was when she spoke to Jirou. "You helped me. And now it's my turn to help you."

He looked at her with an unreadable expression. She was unnerved by it. He suddenly took a step closer, looking into her eyes. "Whatever you're planning. Don't do it." His voice was stern and careful.

(Y/N) maintained eye contact with him. She was sure he didn't know. And if he did, she wasn't going to let that thinking resume. The stakes were too high. She didn't falter. Her brows furrowed with feigned confusion and her eyes narrowed, pausing slightly for effect as if trying to understand what he meant. "What?" She replied.

"Whatever you're doing. Stop." He reiterated.

"Midoriya-"

"Yamasaki, I'm not stupid." He pushed.

(Y/N) inhaled deeply. "I'm not doing anything." She fought back. "Nothing is going on."

"Don't you dare lie to me," Midoriya hissed.

(Y/N) was taken aback by his sharpness. She gulped thickly. "I'm not. I'm not the one who ran off on my own." She was treading on thin ice.

Midoriya's gaze fell to the floor. "I was trying to keep everyone safe."

"I know." (Y/N) assured. "But being with your friends and family is the best way to keep them safe. You're smart enough to know that no matter how hard you try to leave, everyone's going get you back. That's just how we work. We're a family." Saying that stung but (Y/N) doubled-down with her words.

Midoriya sighed. "Thank you, Yamasaki." He met her eyes again. "Just... please be safe."

(Y/N) gulped. She nodded. "I am as long as I'm here."

Midoriya frowned but said nothing.
