(Y/N) descended the stairs of the news building with Chizome and Jin trailing behind her. Her mind may as well have been a washing machine at that moment with the number of scenarios and predictions playing out in her head as she tried to ready herself as much as possible for the upcoming battle she was throwing herself into. She breathed in and out deeply, her eyes shutting every so often to help her focus on the task at hand.
The three reached the lobby where (Y/N) turned and looked upon the two who had helped her so much; the two she would have called enemies in the past; the two who had once been labelled as monsters by the heroes she once associated herself with. Now it was different. Now they were allies. Now they were helping her fight the one true evil that plagued Japan, and, ultimately, the world.
(Y/N) gulped. "You want to stay?" She clarified with a raised brow. "Really?"
She hoped they'd say no. She begged whatever higher force that there may be to get them to say no. To get them down to go down to the bunker and away from danger.
They nodded almost instantly with expressions so determined (Y/N) knew there was no chance of changing their minds. Her gaze fell to her feet. She frowned. She felt a dawning fear dwell on her heart like a hand had seized it and squeezed it. She closed her eyes tightly and tried to will the feeling away.
She felt a hand on her shoulder.
She looked up to find Jin standing in front of her. His hand clutched her shoulder, and then he placed his other hand on her other shoulder in the same way. He looked at her with a gaze so fond she felt her worries wash away like a tidal wave whisking away the demons that wanted her fear to amount to failure. His grey eyes were calm. They weren't blurred with the confused emotions that normally dwelled in his gaze. They weren't frantic with the usual stress that constantly plagued him. They were like rain clouds before thunder roared and lightning struck. They were the calm before the storm. They were the tranquility before the chaos. They were the strength before the battle.
"It's going to be okay," Jin said quietly.
(Y/N) felt as though she may cry. "Thank you." Her voice wavered. Her face fell into her hands. "God, why am I so scared?" She exhaled a trembling breath.
Chizome hummed. "It's good to be scared."
(Y/N) peeked up from her wettened palms to look at him.
"It's the drive to keep us going. Without fear, the fight isn't worth anything."
(Y/N) breathed deeply again before nodding. She swatted away the frightened tears. "You're right." She sniffled. "I'm scared because I'm fighting for what I love. Without that fear, there is no goal."
Jin brightened. "Yes! I fight for Himiko!"
(Y/N) smiled at him. Her smile was no longer forced or scared. It was genuine.
