(Y/N) sat in front of the faculty of teachers with a nervous look on her face. She twiddled her thumbs as they mumbled amongst themselves. Her eyes darted around the room. Her cheeks were hot with worry.
She intended to remain at UA, but that didn't mean that UA didn't face any backlash for it. The faculty was forced to deal with the press and to try and disclose as much personal information about (Y/N) as much as possible. They had to treat her like Eri. They had to keep her safe on UA grounds. Letting her go out freely would prove dangerous so soon after she had awoken. The teachers had no doubt that Overhaul's minions may still be looking out for her - she had proven to be their greatest asset and they were sure not to just let it go.
There was also the question of her training. She had disclosed some information as to what had happened to her down in the Shie Hassaikai compound with her teachers, to which some of them were greatly uncomfortable. The experiments and operations, most of which she was unconscious for so she didn't have a lot of insight as to what exactly they had performed, were explained to both the police and the staff of UA. The "doctors" had messed with her body, her blood. The teachers needed to be sure that she was safe to continue practical training.
"So, you have not used your quirk since you returned home, correct?" Principle Nezu asked. He sat comfortably in Mr. Aizawa's scarf, who seemed mildly irritated but didn't seem to make a fuss.
(Y/N) nodded. "I used it when I initially got out of the hospital to um- get away from there. But I used it absentmindedly. I wasn't really thinking in the moment. I haven't used it since then, though, no." She explained smoothly.
"I see..." Nezu hummed. "Is this because you can't activate it or you have chosen not to?"
"I haven't tried to." (Y/N) admitted. "I- I'm scared of what may happen..."
"That's understandable." Midnight chimed in. "Of course, you must tackle this hurdle soon if you want to proceed in the Hero Course. Although, we could always transfer you-"
"No!" (Y/N) interjected frantically. "No, please don't transfer me. I really want to stay in my class. This is just something I need to get over myself." She sighed. "I promise I'll try!" She nodded firmly.
Aizawa kept a monotone expression but everyone else's lips stretched into comforting smiles. She was a strong girl, no one had any doubt about that. She had hit an obstacle like no other. She just needed time, and the faculty at UA were willing to give her that.
"You will be exempt from all practical training for your first month back, Yamasaki," Nezu announced authoritatively. "Of course, if you wish to join in before then, then by all means do so. But if you wish to sit out, you will not be penalised for such a thing. You need time to get used to your quirk again, as well as build up your mental and physical strength. The team at UA supports your time for progress and is here to help with any problem you may have. Your well-being is our top priority." Pause. "We all have faith in you, Yamasaki. You are one of the most promising students to grace these halls. We will help you every step of the way to achieving your dream, even with this obstacle that you face."
(Y/N) smiled largely.
That afternoon. The class stared at the television screen with fear, worry, and excitement as they watched the new number one hero, Endeavor, officially mark himself as the new symbol of hope for the people of Japan.
His bright fire sparked something new in the hearts of the students in 1A. It was something different for every one of them.
For (Y/N), it was drive. She wanted to be that. She wanted to be the symbol of hope. She wanted to be the person that people look for when they are in need.
She was determined to overcome the fear that Overhaul had instilled in her.
She was determined to grow from her newfound knowledge about her quirk.
