(Y/N) leaned her head against the wall of the plane with her eyes closed. She breathed in deeply and shallowly. Her lips were frowning and her legs were restless. She desperately tried to sleep - she couldn't. The lights of the plane had been switched off and most of the passengers had fallen asleep in their seats but (Y/N) couldn't bring herself to follow as her mind was rampant with anxiety. Her heart was plagued with regret. While she got the answers she came here for, she couldn't help but feel like it wasn't worth it. She had put her friends in danger and essentially crushed all hopes of having a "normal" family.
(Y/N) let out a tired sigh before peeling her eyes open and staring at the seat in front of her, her expression devoid of anything readable.
"Can't sleep?" A quiet voice muttered in the silence of the cabin.
(Y/N)'s eyes met Todoroki's who looked at her sympathetically. Her frown deepened. "Don't look at me like that." She murmured, pulling her eyes from his and dropping them to her lap.
Todoroki frowned at her. "I'm sorry." He mumbled.
(Y/N) let out another sigh. Her heart squeezed with pain and her nostrils tingled with despair. She tried to suppress her sadness. "Don't be sorry," she whispered. She sniffled quietly. She wiped her cheeks with her hands as if tears had fallen but they hadn't yet.
Todoroki observed her for a moment. "I know how you feel." He began quietly. "You know my father and I don't have an ideal relationship... I know how it feels to have an absent father figure in your life."
(Y/N) finally let her eyes return to his. It only made her heart feel worse but she didn't pull her gaze away. "I-" She struggled to get the words out. "I feel selfish." She confessed in a hushed mutter.
Todoroki rose a brow curiously but did not interrupt her.
"I have a father figure in my life. Kenji, back at home, is basically my dad. And yet I sought someone else. It's- It's- greedy." She inhaled sharply and held her breath, trying to prevent tears from falling. She wiped her hands down her temples, trying to soothe the ache in her head. "Why would I try and replace him?" She spoke more to herself than Todoroki but he still listened with every ounce of attention.
Todoroki's eyes saddened, looking at his friend with a look more expressive than most of his looks. His gaze dropped to her hand and, after a moment of contemplation, placed it atop of hers. (Y/N) stilled for a second but didn't pull away, instead relishing in the comfort his touch brought and allowing herself to relax slightly. "I don't think it's selfish." His voice was deep and gravelly as he whispered to her. He kept their conversation hushed between the two of them. "Forgive me if I step over the line... but I know you share your home with several others. It's understandable that you'd want someone you didn't have to share."
(Y/N) let out a quiet whine. "That makes me sound like an entitled baby." She pressed the back of her head against the plane chair, squeezing her eyes shut and using her other hand to grab at her frayed hair, finding it oddly grounding.
