Andrew:
The day passed by like a blur, I walked Kiley to her house and made it to mine. She lives three blocks away, but on the way to mine.
"Hey mom!" I called out, it sounded louder than intended.
"Why are you shouting?!" My mom mocked me with wide eyes as she placed her cooking things down. She laughed as I rolled my eyes at her.
I smiled as she kissed my cheek. "How was your day, honey?"
"It was great."
My mom gave me a look.
I frowned. "What?"
She shrugged. "Normally, after you come from school you look all bored, tired and stressed." Then she added:
"You don't even say hi to me."
"Meh."
She grinned widely. "Who's the girl?"
My eyes widen and my jaw fell. "What? There's no girl, for God's sake..."
"Well, your reaction says otherwise," she said matter of factly.
"She's a new friend, mom. I'm helping her out," I trailed off. "She needs somebody to understand her."
"Why?" She asked, curiosity glowing in her eyes.
"Mom, she's deaf."
"Oh," she said and her smile fell. "What makes her...special to you?"
"Mom, I just met her; she's not special to me; she's special in other terms."
"Okay then."
