Kiley:

I knocked on the door, hard, as I opened it, it's the only way I can announce that I've arrived.

Mom was in the living room, smiling at me. She had tear stains on her puffy cheeks. I furrowed my eyebrows at her in confusion.

'What's wrong?' I signed.

Her smile widened, her white pearly teeth showing as she signed back.

'There's someone in your room.'

My face lit up and I ran upstairs. Once I opened my room door, my eyes widened.

My dad stood beside my bed, a smile on his face. He had stitches on the side of his forehead and a scar on his arm.

He signed. 'Hi, baby girl.'

I mouthed 'dad', as tears stung my eyes and fell down my cheeks. I ran up to him, giving him a tight hug, careful not to hurt him.

He wrapped his arms around me carefully and I felt him laugh. We pulled away and he signed at me.

'Did you doubt me?'

My eyes trailed to his bruises and stitches. I smiled softly and shook my head as I signed back.

'Never.'
